OBD2 Emission Readyness

Post by LARRY2716 »

Will OBD2 Emission Readyness complete with Predator tune installed ?
Or will stock tune have to be flashed prior to for emissions testing ?

The stock tune has to be installed back in the car. And it should be driven with the stock tune about a week before the emissions test is done. Hope this helps.

I work at a Porsche dealer and that is where I get my Virginia inspections done on my 2006 Mustang GT. I attempted to pass w/ the 93-octane tune, and it failed. I went home and swaped out the tunes, then did what the '06 Mustang owners manual says to do; drive 15 or more mins/miles in stop and go traffic, then 15 or more mins/miles at highway speeds. Then park the car for 8-hours. Does the car know what day it is? The next day I took the test again and it passed. I had heard about driving for a week with the factory tune, but couln't bear the thought of not having my Predator tune all that time. Hope it works for you. Good luck.

Thanks, I know the engine to run under a variety of conditions for all OBD2 tests to complete. I just did know if they would complete with the Diablo Tune installed. I now know it won't . I also have the AutoTap Diagnostics for my laptop and can check all states of the Emissions Readiness Test. Just was curious it tests would complete with Tune installed, it has not thus far !

Machinist by trade,
Thanks !

Just curious if anyone can explain why OBD2 readyness test will not complete when ECM is Predator Tune flashed.
Is it the flashing it's self, or are some emissions systems altered in their operation ?

No problems with MIL light coming on, yet !
2002 Mustang GT is stock except for Accufab 75mm Tbody / Plenum.

Thanks, I just wanted to be prepared for emissions testing when it is time.
Too bad flashing original factory tune is a must.

Yeah. But you only have to do it every now & then. Also it's a good idea to do before you take it to the dealership . Sometimes they will update your pcm. If you have a tune in the car the reflash will install a stock tune over your performance tune. Then you will need to have your Predator reset.

I was aware of the dealership thing and possible flashing at the dealer, thus locking me out of my Predator. The whole flashing thing still makes me nervous. Such as fan coming on, odometer blanking out, etc. Worry about it leaving my car disabled. I am cautious about power, a good battery, leaving the doors closed, etc.
Thanks !

According to my ScanGage, OBD2 readyness test has completed while Predator performance flashed. Does this mean it will pass emission testing ? Have been driving conservatively due to my bike on the back & fog, but fuel mileage seems to have increased about 2 mpg if easy on the gas.
Scangage shows MPG on a trip by trip basis, per tank, & real time. It is really a great device as their is no installation ( plug into OBD2 port ), and displays MPG, GPM, intake air temp, timing, fuel pressure and others, highly recommended for about $170.
Have not had a chance to really open it up, but no problems with the Predator Performance Tune so far !
