U7140--Can not download tune using serial cable and DSLoader
U7140
v.8r38
2005 Mustang GT, 4.6 V8
Tried posting this onece already, see no answer. I have downloaded the latest DSloader utility, all instructions and have followed them to the letter. Using a serial cable, DSLoader sees the U7140, I click on download tune, the Predator states in remote mode, progress bar comes up on the tool and DSLoader. The highest it has ever progressed is 4%. Typically it does the above and the download fails within 10-15 seconds.
What the heck do I need to do get my tune downloaded? And I seriously doubt the usb to serial adapter will make a hill of beans difference......
A little help please!!

RE: U7140--Can not download tune using serial cable and DSLo
on your computer in device manager, make sure the serial baud is set to 115k, on the predator under options set serial baud to 115k.
RE: U7140--Can not download tune using serial cable and DSLo
I fall under the umbrella of experienced computer user as defined in the DSLoader help utility. I have set the baud rate at the prescibed settings both on my computer and the Predator. The DS Loader sees the Predator on Com1, I initiate a backup and it will read anywhere from 15 to 443 packets, as high as 11% displayed on the Predator Screen and then fails everytime. Everytime I start another download samething...sometimes reads 15, 83, 78 packets and again as high as 443 before blowing up. It NEVER completes the download. I am running this on high end Dell M6500 laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate......I have also tried running on it on an old, slow Dell 600m laptop running XP-SP3...exactly the same results on either machine....Norton Firewall has been disabled on both machiines, which really should have nothing to with hampering a download via the serial port........What else I can do?
RE: U7140--Can not download tune using serial cable and DSLo
hmm that's weird, I've had no problems, but when I data log I only drive for 5-10mins max, so my file sizes are small.
RE: U7140--Can not download tune using serial cable and DSLo
Go into Device Manager and verify it's really using COM1. Most USB-Serial drivers typically start at COM4 on up. It will be under Ports (COM & LPT) sub-tree.
After you find the correct COM port. Bring up DSDL and turn OFF auto connect (Options->Auto Connect). The Connection Test tab will appear. Select the COM port and try the Test Button.

I am using a straight serial cable. It is definitely on COM1, set at 115K as the Predator. DSLoader sees the predator on Com1, again I begin downloads, see the message on the Predator screen that is connected. The Predator then brings up the progress bar and DSloader dislays a screen how many packets and data are downloading.....the download consistently quits everytime, way short of a complete download. I get anywhere from 15 to 463 packets (11% displayed on the Predator uload rogres bar) and then fails...If I have initiated a download once, I've done it 100 times, with each ending in the same predictable results as stated above. I have set the BAUD rate on DSL and Predator to 115K. In the Diablo insttructions it gives you full settings for COM1 on the host computer; baud, parity, bits etc....these are set on the host to exactly as defined in the instructions.....all to no avail!
I believe I notice if I try and upload the latest Predator update, it gives me a message that there is previous back up tune and I must reinstall that to the 05 GT before proceeding. I assume this the factory tune. I guess I need to download that to GT first, then upgrade the Predator and proceed from there. My only fear is the current communication issues with my u7140...what if it only gets 25 to 50% and blows out the download...what s that going to do to the PCM in the 05 GT?? I don't want to get stuck having to buy a new PCM or having it reflashed by a dealer....
Can anyone think of anything else?

trying to install latest crom update 05-9r06
2005 Mustang gt 4.6 V8
Following another techs recommendations, I connected the Predator to the car, reinstalled the stock tune successfully, downloaded crom file listed above, started to update the Predator, started the process and then hung.
Now everytime I try to install the new firmware, the predator displays "this stang_05 tool requires a CROM file before use with "continue" flashing on the bottom. When I hit the center button it reboots and goes back to the requires crom file screen. When I run DSloader to try and install the CROM file, DS Loader displays a error message "no signal" detected and shuts down...
Now what??

RE: U7140 now HOSED!!
Also tried the procedure listed under help in DSLoader: Missing or corrupt file on the predator.....followed all instructions, fails everytime stating it does not receive a signal from The predator......
RE: U7140 now HOSED!!
additional info....latest version of DSLoader does not have a "send crom to predator". I found an older version of DSLoader (1.6.1.0), uninstalled latest version of DSLoader, installed older version, followed fix corrupt crom instructions, using old version, predator off, ran old version of DSloader, selected the new firmware 05-9r06 crom file, turned on predator, and clicked on send crom to predator....worked like a charm and now the Predator boots perfect with the latest firmware.....
In summary to correct all the aforementioned problems using Diablo Tech support suggestions and my own findings:
Connect predator to 05 gt, restore pcm to factory tune
After latest DSLoader hosed my U7140:
-Uninstall latest version of DSL you installed from Diablo site
-Install DSL v1.6.1.0 (found going a google search on Predator U7140)
-follow help instructions found in latest DSL (which have not changed from old DSL to new DSL) as their is no "send crom to predator)
-Predator off, run old DSL, Select latest version of crom you downloaded, power up predator, click on send crom to predator, took about 5 minues to complete.
-WA-LA, U7140 now boots clean with latest crom!
------happy trails, from straling.......
hope this may help others......

RE: U7140 now HOSED!!
"Send CROM to Predator" was changed to "Update Tool" in later versions of DSDL. What version of DSDL did you have issues with?
RE: U7140 now HOSED!!
The latest version, downloaded from the Dablo site just last week. 2.2.9 I believe..again its the lastest version from Diablo Downloads for the 05 Mustang GT and also downloaded the latest crom file at the same time...... DSL 1.6.1.0 worked perfect!
RE: U7140 now HOSED!!
Today, Sunday 10-10-10 reinstalled the FIPK, modified tune. I had been pretty conssrvative when I installed this last time (like 3 years ago). And decided to get a little more brazen in this tune. My 05 GT, manual trans is pretty stock; K&N FIPK, Mac Catback exhaust (sweet sounding exhaust). I will not go into the tuning customization.....but in general raised rev limiter, shut off top speed limiter, left fans alone, shut off traction control, modified global advance, 2-4 and 4-7K rpm fuel and timing, maf curve etc. Turned the GT into a mad dog!! Never experienced this much power from previous tune...decelerating, 2nd gear down on a mild down hill-nailed it and barked the tires.....driving in 1 st, nailed the pedal and lit the tires up with no clutching. found a secluded section of highway and ramp. decided to try my launches...Tacked to 5k dropped the clutch and produced a good burnout and excellent acceleration, caught second and pitched the GT sideways.........very sweet!!!!!!!!!
RE: U7140 now HOSED!!
to JIMB: the updated and latest DSL does not work worth a crap when trying to upload the latest crom...especilly in my case where the latest DSL corrupted my sport tuner crom file...thank god, I believe "paul" from Diablo had me download the factory tune first to the pcm>>>>before any other steps...that was a life saver...and by the way is also found in obscure predator instructions>>>>>
thanks,

RE: U7140 now HOSED!!
and relative to logging live driving data, I to want to track live data while driving......the Predator instructions on this procedure are so vaugue as to be incrediibly useless. Does one leave the Predator connected to the vehicle's odbc port, online and connected whilst driving or off to gather data for post drive review...or what???????
