Need some help/advise please.

Post by ProEMTPFF »

I'm not new to Predators or the forums just new to 6.0 Diesels. I have a 2006 SC 4x4 and a predator I just bought with "8r17" in it. Is this a good tune or should I upgrade? I have searched the forums and all I see are complaints about the latest tune.............what should I do if anything?

The complaints you're likely seeing are a result of the FICM reflashes that Ford is doing on the 6.0 TD as yet another way of limiting warranty claims on that engine. You can update to the current revision and get great power.

OK, so update my predator tune but don't get the truck reflashed? How is the current revision on economy "mid" tune? The truck is bone stock except for the tuner.

You should be quite happy with the response and power, as the tunes have been refined and tested. Like I said before, it was recalibrations to the FICM (made by Ford) that are changing the performance of these trucks.

The power and tune your are talking about where is it????
Mikel has told us they are working on a fix for this problem (about a year now no fix).
The power and mpg's on the current tunes are not much better than stock mpg's on my truck are worse than stock.
This tuner is pretty much worthless until Diablo fixes this current FICM issues.

And yes these are the facts............

About time Diablo steps up to the plate and fixes this problem as they have been telling us now for over a year.

My statement was based on the assumption that you had not had the FICM reflash performed by Ford. Yes, we have been working on this for some time, but that aspect is out my hands. If your vehicle has been updated by Ford, it is unlikely that the 8r17 revision will contain support for your new calibration ID. You most likely will have to update it to be able to write a tune to your vehicle.

If you want, you can go ahead and try the tool on your vehicle with the 8r17 revision if you want. If your truck is on an a CAL ID that it does not have support for, it will not cause any problems, it simply will not proceed with writing a tune.

The 8r17 has loaded so I'd assume my truck doesn't have the latest Ford flash. If the current Pred revision has a better performance tune and fuel economy I'll download and install it. I'd assume then the best thing for me is to pray I don't have to take my truck to Ford any time soon or at least until you have a "fix" for the new Ford flash.

If you're happy on 8r17, just leave it there for now.

I like it but could always use more power and fuel economy.

Well, lesson learned if your happy leave things alone...............I liked the 8r17 better. It had more "seat of the pants" power feel.
