How to create our own custom tune instructions or video?

Post by AZOTH99 »

Will there, or has there been a video or instructions to teach us how to do our own custom tuning? I'm reading as much as I can which seems to be NOTHING for our modern Hemi? Got any suggestions on where to look and read? is there a video or book out yet? or are all the tuners keeping their skills a secret from the everyday guy? Even then those guys had to learn somehow? Only thing I have access to is a book on tuning mustangs?

I was hoping to find something here as your tool is a major help in tuning our cars, guess I'll keep searching endlessly? Some tuning basics would be great. I'll be logging my track runs, and would like to know how to do my own dyno tuning as there are plenty of Dyno's in the area, but only 1 or 2 tuners that tune the Hemi half way decently. Even then the dyno is just a base line for a good solid base CMR tune. The track is supposed to be where we perfect our tunes.

I'd rather blow my motor on my own, than trust my car to someone whom kinda does a really good job, but not really if you know what I mean...

Please any help would be really appreciated, I'm sure there are alot who could use this thread and learn from it.

Thanks if anyone helps

You can't tune without the CMR software. Contact the sales team if you want to buy it. It'll cost you $2500, but includes access to more detailed tuning info.

So if the local shop that does custom tuning, and has the software. But doesn't have a dodge guy, (they have a mustang guy, doesn't want to touch the hemi) and I want to learn and possibly be their dodge / Hemi guy. There is nothing out there that will show me, teach me, or I can't seek you out to learn your software to properly tune vehicles, if the shop already has the software? Or are you saying no matter what, I have to buy the software myself, and learn all on my own?

I'm not trying to be difficult it just seems that any approach I look into tuning the Hemi, I run into a wall. There's plenty of books out on tuning Chevy's, fords, but nothing on the Hemi. Heck I picked up a tuning mustangs book just to learn the basics. I have alot of questions, but can't seem to get the answers I'm looking for with all the why's and what if's, and the well how do I's etc...

I'm sure you guys can understand that.

So nothing? I can't tune my own vehicle at the shop that has the software? There is no where to learn to use it? I'm sure I can figure it out. but I'd rather not ruin a motor just to figure it out.

AZOTH99: what do you think will happen when you misprogramm something an f.e. the throttle keeps stuck open as you mixed up parameters?

it makes sense to keep the CMR SW covered a little and to recommend the CMR Dealers to KNOW, what they're playing around with.

Best way to learn to tune these cars is get a stocker on the dyno, log it stock, flash our tune, log it again, go through our tune in CMR to understand what we change and why, then you'll have a good grasp of where to start and what does what ;)

thanks mike that's the best info I've gotten so far and it makes sense to do it that way. I've been reading a book on tuning so I'm slowly learning. I just want to be able to dial in my own tune at the track thru testing and logging without feeling like I need to use the dyno over and over again.
