Silverado - Suggested changes? (U7193)

Post by kenny782 »

I have a I have a U7193 on v2.10
2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 4WD - V8 5.3L Gas Vin "B"

Upgrades
Volant CAI
Magnaflow Catback
I also have the E3 plugs and the some performance plug wires.
3" suspension/3" body lift
tires 305x85x17

I have the 87 octane tune loaded, the only change I've made is the tire size.

None of this is new I've had the predator and the upgrades for a while.
But I wondering if anyone had any tips on what else might be worth changing for some more mpg based on all the upgrades I made above.

Thanks,

Kenny

hmm i'm sure as you know its your lift and tires that are killing you, i've seen TONS of problems with the E3's sometimes the engine won't run on all cylinders or will misfire with them. i guess i dont know what to tell you ... actually i'd say screw mileage and throw a cam in her!

Hry thanks for the reply

Well with all the other upgrades I've almost broken even with what I was getting for the lift.
So I guess I can't complain too much lol

As far as the E3's they're probably in their 2 years maybe a little more.
I haven't had any obvious issues, no engine codes about misfires.

But I'm doing some work on the truck and getting ready to pull them all out and give 'em a look anyway.

I am assuming you have already done all this, but have you run the data logs and adjusted your LTFTs (long term fuel trims)? I know that made a world of difference in my truck. I also ponied up the dough to have Lew do a custom tune for my truck. All Ive really done is put LT headers, deleted the cats, and a flowmaster. All those things combined have gotten me really close to where I was before I put my tires on my truck. I went from the factory goodyears to 10 ply rated toyo open country M/Ts and they KILLED my fuel mileage, and I kept with the stock size (they're worth it though). How much difference did you notice with the Volant CAI and the E3s? I was thinking about going that route with mine.

oops! That's the one I was thinking about. LOL! I like that the one for the NBS GMs come from both sides. Seems like they'd really shove the air to the truck. Not that I regularly cross deep water, but it does scare me a bit about possibly sucking in water...

Hey sorry for the delay.
I'm really not sure made a bunch of changes at once, which isn't too smart when you want to see what's working lol. I don't think it did anything overly impressive, but I never did add the RAM air hookup to the front of the truck.

I drive between atlanta and new york alot during the winter. I didn't like the idea of something open with all that snow and ice. So I got the volant with a box.

First I've heard of vararam but looks like good stuff.

Yeah, sorry for me being so long too.

Heres the shortcut for how to tune your vehicle with the predator: http://www.diablosport.com/index.php?na ... opic&t=917

I'm not sure if this worked, but there is a thread in the sticky section of this forum that is titled "Sticky: LS1/LS2/LS3/LS4/LS7 etc. - LOGGING, ADJUSTING INJECTOR SLOPE"

It'll get you well on your way to getting your truck properly tuned. What you want to do is go to re-install your tune to your truck and reset all parameters. and then follow the thread's instructions. I can say first hand that it made a difference on my truck. Just don't go into this expecting this too to turn your truck into a top fuel dragster. It will however make a good difference on your truck. I'd say that's the first place to start with getting your truck tuned well. Make sure and read on that thread 'cause a lot of issues you may run across may be addressed in there. I'll keep checking every so often here to see how it goes. good luck!

lol hey man they design those things to remove water very quickly! my vr-6 has a little dip on the air bridge and it has water in it all the time...it evaporates from engine temps...nothing to worry about...unless you plan on crossing the ocean :normal:

I was considering getting a cam for my 5.3... but the truck still has to be a reliable daily driver.

Anyone purchase one of GM's Rocky Ridge Trucks have any feedback on a tune? It seems like Rocky Ridge would have to make some minor changes before pushing those out to the dealers but who knows.... It would have been nice to have Diablo incorporated into that conversion just as they have done with SLP ZL Camaros. I know that a lot of us have that same truck and it seems that there would be a great market for this. (probably has been done already, but I have not heard anything)

those are just Silverado's / Sierra's with a conversion kit... the ecm would be the same as any others... they just reprogram for the speedo/tire size....

predator/trinity should work fine for those without issue...
