Ford 6.4 no forward gears, just reverse after programming

Post by 03svrider »

a customer of mine downloaded a new program with his 7164 and there are no forward gears, just reverse now. "ECKS fatal error" comes up on the Predator. Can anybody help this guy get to work tomorrow.

He called in and spoke with Vas and myself. The tuner was able to restore the vehicle back to stock 100%, and we've tried a battery reset so far with no luck. As we left it he's going to get it back to the dealership and we'll see what happens. I asked him to follow up and let me know whatever they find.

So the ford dealer finaly got back to me today and the problem is the transmission control module needs to be replaced!!! I'm not sure if the predator caused this problem or what but not sure if I should try to program again when I get it back from the dealer. Any thoughts from anyone out there.By the way the part is covered under the factory warranty. thanks

I cant see why it would need to be replaced rather than simply reflashed, unless it had some sort of internal failure.

Send the oredator in to be checked out just to be sure.

I'm not Really sure why but as long as it doesn't cost anything it doesn't really matter to me. How do I go about sending the predator in for you guys to check out?

I dont think it is under warranty anymore!!! i bought it used!!! Got the truck back and evrything is back to normal. How much will it cost for you to look at if not under warranty anymore!! Also do you have any idea if it was the predator that caused this problem?

I know the cause of this is a problem in programming the TCM, if the programmer mixes Job 1 and Job 2 TCM files the truck will only have reverse. This problem has occurred with different brand programmers or tuning devices which is where I've seen it. I believe you either have a partial programmed TCM or a Job 1 TCM file on a Job 2 or new 2008 truck. If the TCM was left completely blank you loose the gear position(neutral or park) and the truck won't turnover to start. Hope this helps Diablo find the issue.

Agreed, I see this issue when someone does not restore the stock tune prior to going to the dealership, then they manage to get the tool to restore an old cal to the truck over the new update.
