Unable to restore to original back-up?????7131

Post by Harter-built »

I keep throwing codes and need to take my truck into the dealer for an injector harness. The only problem is that the predator keeps telling me "unable to restore to original back-up, please unplug tool now". I can adjust between programs fine, but cant restore. i need to get to the dealer a.s.a.p. Any help would be great.

Any aftermarket electronics?

EIther way, they wont be able to see the tune, and the tool should go right back in after the dealer visit.

Only aftermarket electronics are pred/puck and stereo, video, etc. no other performance mods. Puck is not hooked up at this time. otherwise, all stock.

How?
What did he see?

I promise you, the only thing he knows, is what he gets you to admit.

I'll report back after I take it in. I keep throwing code P2149, remove my programmer, take in to dealer for 1 week, get new harness or injectors, pick up truck, install tune(usually tow or performance only) drive for aprox 10k miles, then do it all over again(I'm on my 6th visit to the dealer, this is the only time I could not remove the programmer). I'm a little concerned if its my Pred or the truck. Getting concerned since I'm almost out of warranty and do not want this to continue. Any input from you, Mike, would be greatly appreciated. I do enjoy the power, But a dealer run every 10k miles will be hard to stomach when its at my expense. Thank you.

long story mike. My tranny has a intermittent 2-3 shuffle around 30mph. i called my local dealer and talked to a diesel tech. and he said its prob. the gov. pressure solenoid and with my truck still under factory warranty until the end of this month i decided to bring it in. well before i bought it to the dealer i unloaded the performance tune and uploaded the factory program and the tuner said all went well. So im thinking great they will never know well i was wrong. i dropped the truck off and 2 hours later i go back and the diesel tech. said why didnt you just tell me u have a programmer. so now im pissed and i flip on the guy and tell him WTF i dont have a programmer (lying) so he pulls me aside a said listen i dont care its just the service manager was working on it with me and see it also. So i still tell him to get lost i dont have a programmer. He said well maybe the guy before you did(he didnt we talked about this when i bought it). i said well is there a pressure box or something under the hood that i didnt see. He said nope i checked but on your computer there was evidence of a downloader. So warranty voided cause the manager also see it.

Well since nothing is lost to press the issue, try talking to the service manager and telling him to provide proof that there was a programmer used. See if the can date it too. The whole time claim no knowledge of it at all. They have to be able to both prove the programmer was used and that the use of the programmer directly is the cause of the warranty issue your having. For example the 2-3 shuffle your experiencing, is it something in the electronics causing the tranny to hunt around, or mechanical failure of a component? Electronics, well that could be linked to a programmer but would be harder to do, if it's mechanical failure, they could attribute the added power as the direct cause of the failure for example. Keep pressing the issue and keep us posted.

I had the same trouble with the unable to restore backup, I can't remember right now how I got it to work, but I was searching around in the different screens and found another place to restore the backup (if I remember correctly) and it worked from there. I will mess some more and find it later then post the details.

i have done alot of research on the 2-3 shuffle and pretty much everyone is saying its the pressure gov solnoid. people have also said that it even goes bad without any added power. im not going to press the issue, i hate dealing with mechcanics because about 1 out of 10 are really trying to help you. i also heard that really good mech. can see evidence of a programmer. i'm also annoyed that other owners of the predator care more than the makers

There is a technical bulletin for the "hunting" and a replacement of the solenoid is covered under the vehicle warranty I had this completed a little while back. the issue was with the tolerence of the solenoid at light throttle application and the revised solenoid has a stiffer spring to help keep the pressure up in the valve body
