So many PIDs.....what do they mean?

Post by copracer288 »

I have an '07 Dodge Charger SRT8

I have Predator U7135 revision 8r15f.

I just started using the Dataviewer (3.1.2.0) and I'm trying to figure out which PIDs I should be monitoring. There are so many, the vast majority of which I have no clue as to what they are.

For spark advance I'm monitoring "Spark Advance 1".

For knock retard I'm monitoring "Knock St Retard" and "Knk Fuel Retard". Which one should I use for knock retard?

What should I be using for A/F ratio? Is it "O2 Monitor Bank 1 (and 2) Ratio"?

I'm also watching "Engine Coolant Temp", "Intake Air Temp", "Vehicle Speed", "Engine Speed", and "Throttle Blade Position".

Anything else I should be logging?

Thanks.
Rob

This is an interesting issue. Our tuner techs have all this knowledge in their heads, but there has never been an effort to create a "tuning manual" that would included this type of information. Other than asking the tuner techs to watch the forums for these kind of questions, I have nothing to provide at this time. I know the support folks have been talking about writing up a list of parameters with extended descriptions - one or two sentences per parameter - but that will take time to create.

Bump....this too is of interest to me. I can't imagine with 110 PID's someone hasn't taken the time to put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard.

That would be cool.

For now though, could you help me out with the parameters I asked about in the original post.

There are even more PIDs if you change the "Show Infrequently Used PIDs" setting :-)

I will see if I can get Johan and/or Mike over here to provide the best tuning params.

That would be great.

I've noticed on some of the threads on the LX forum that when guys have posted screenshots of their datalogging they have different parameter "labels" then what I have.

For example I have seen "Open loop A/F ratio". Perfect, except I have no such label.

The description depends upon the data set used. Every manufacturer has different PID lists, and the vehicle year makes a difference as well.

That would explain the difference.

So I just need help translating the '07 Dodge PIDs.

I would be interested in seeing the PID list, if and when it comes available.

You best bet is to do some research on the web. There are tons of tuner enthusiast resources out there.

With the DataViewer being a free download, and with DiabloSport not being in the business of training tuners, requests for additional information are not going to be high priority.

Wow.

All I wanted to know is what the PIDs mean and then only the relevant ones.

The Dataviewer is Diablo software so I figured you guys should know what they mean.

I'm not asking to be trained as a tuner. Actually, all I really NEED is just to know which PID to watch for knock retard and which to watch for A/F ratio.

My apologies, my comment was not meant to be harsh in any way. I just want to be completely honest and not mislead anyone as to when (and if) the PID Dictionary discussed above is going to become available. The database for the DataViewer contains over 20 thousand parameters in it, and is growing with every release.

That's cool.

I don't mean to be pushy either. I know you guys have been really busy especially with us Dodge guys lately.

Do you guys use the Dataviewer when you tune or do you use something else?

Johan and Cole use the new DataViewer. Kevin is stuck with the old CMR_DAT until the older Ford tools can talk with the DataViewer.

Johan has an 07 SRT8 in today, and will be creating a new dashboard for it with everything you need.

Try this new beta:

DataViewer 3.1.4.2

According to Johan, this dashboard makes much more sense. It includes everything you asked for.
