More Trans Control PLEASE!!!! 06 Hemi Ram

Post by need-a-cage »

I was really happy with how much better I was able to make the drivability of my truck by adjusting the upshift and mainly the downshift parameters with my Predator. However, I really need to be able to adjust the part throttle 3-4 and 4-3 shifts.

I see that SuperChips now offers this along with complete control of the torque management and now I am afraid I might have to sell the Predator and switch to SC. I don't want to because the truck is hauling ass with my adjustments to fuel and timing, but every day drivability is a bigger concern at this point than how it does at the drag strip.

Please tell me that you can match SC's adjustability in the transmission department. They have 2 prime parameters and 4th gear shift parameters. I NEED THAT! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE...don't make me buy SC.

My biggest complaint right now with the trans is in my every day commute where I have to go up a pretty steep hill with a 40mph speed limit. It does fine in 3rd with converter unlocked. Then it levels slightly for a couple seconds before getting steeper so I have to let off a litte to avoid going 50mph and the truck shifts to 4th and I am at 1600rpm trying to go up a steep grade with a 5400lb truck. I have to step on it too much to get it to shift back into 3rd. If I hit the OD off button, it stays in 3rd but locks the converter and the rpms drop down too low again and it struggles up the hill.

Does it lock the converter immediately with the OD off because they assume you are towing and don't want to burn up the converter? It struggles without a load by locking the converter too soon so I would hate to see how this thing does towing.

Thanks,
Craig

right. Diablo needs to get some '05 & '06 Rams in and improve shift control over 3-4, 4-5, 5-4 & 4-3.

there is some control of converter lock-up and un-lock.

making an end user adjustable full shift program like SC may not be the best solution. custom TCM tunes are much simpler to load. don't have to set all your shift points manually.

changing Croms takes much less time now that I have a custom TCM tune with my shift schedule written into it. tune to stock, switch Crom, load custom PCM & TCM tune, done.

Yes, I just want the same control for the 3-4 and 4-3 as I have for the 1-2, 2-3, 3-2, and 2-1 shifts. I like being able to tailor it to shift exactly where I want it to shift. I haven't updated the CROM for a while, but I will definitely save my current tune as a custom tune first. It takes 30 minutes to adjust everything each time. Hopefully I still have the paper that I wrote all my current adjustments down on.

It would be nice to have control of the TM as well, but Diablo does seem to have it set pretty well. I don't think I need it to shift any firmer at WOT and it shifts nice and easy at light throttle and gets progressively firmer as the throttle position increases. However, you never know if it is perfect until you can dick around with the adjustments yourself.

I really wanted a stick, so at least let me get the trans to shift when I want it to. It is already MUCH nicer than stock just with the adjustments I have made. The Dodge engineers really had the trans control f'd up on my 2006. It would hold 3rd going up a hill at 20mph until you got to 55% throttle position. How retarded is that!

I will be much happier with it if I can just get the 3-4 and 4-3 modified to hold 3rd a little longer and downshift to 3rd a little sooner.

there is at least one more TM reduction that can be made which is not done in canned tuning, and another TM reduction that is already made that can be reduced more.

only way you are likely to get full control of TM is to get CMR or SCT software. Superchips only gives the end user control of whatever they decided to make adjustable, which is probably not all aspects of TM, just some of them.

I suspect there may be some aspects of TM Diablo has not discovered yet, since the DCX truck PCM/TCM is such a PITA to deal with. if so, even CMR would not have full control of TM.

with CMR, I have more control of 1-2, 2-3, 3-2, and 2-1 shifts than the Predator does.

know what ya mean about stock shift schedule, it SUCKS!! my '05 did the same crap in 3rd tuned stock.

tq converter adjustment + extra throttle sensitivity helps some with 4-5, 5-4 & 3-4, 4-3, but upper gear control could use some definate improvement IMO.

CMR does not have as much control of 4-5, 5-4 & 3-4, 4-3 shifts as mikel and Johan led me to believe, and I am ticked about being misinformed.

I wish HTC had more storage for old topics. I would like to post some of mikel's grand claims about what Diablo was gonna do, while Diablo tuning for trucks was still in beta testing. stuff like full shift control for all years, INCLUDING 2003..............

I wish Diablo would at least get TCM support for '04's, and decent shift control for 4-5, 5-4 & 3-4, 4-3 on '05- '06. it appears '07+ trucks may have decent control of 4-5, 5-4 & 3-4, 4-3 with CMR from what I see looking at template files.

if you want to try one of my TCM tunes, we need to do that in e-mails. while I can lock tunes, I am not comfortable posting them as a download on the open forum.

I guess the Diablo guys don't care about us anymore since they haven't bothered to respond.

Mike or Johan, is there any chance we will get some more control or is my best bet to buy the competitor's product?

Thanks

thread was started almost a week ago, looks like Mike and Johan are ignoring this topic..........

I will go start a topic about this in the CMR section.

this is getting ridiculous. from what I am seeing, control of 3-4,4-5, 5-4 & 4-3 is mapped out in low range for '05 4x4's, and there is control of 1-2, 2-3, 3-2 & 2-1 in 4x2 mode.

in theory, it shouldn't take much to add control of 3-4,4-5, 5-4 & 4-3 in 4x2 mode for both '05 & '06 Rams.

Adjusting the shift points for 3-4,4-5 is something I have been asking about for a long time. The only response I have gotten is "We will look into it" so I'm not very hopeful.

Maybe they don't like my threats about going to the competitor, but I thought that might get somebody's attention.

It would be nice to see a response. I was one of the first guys to get one of these and spent a lot of time tryiing things out and updating Mike on my experiences on the HemiTruckClub website.

a response would be nice. some appreciation for your effort would be nice.

you were at the front of the pack, blazing the trail! a lot of HTC members are using your shift schedule, or used it as a starting point for their own shift schedule.

a lot of people didn't really know where to start with creating their own shift schedule, and you helped them get started.

your efforts probably helped sell quite a few Predators. once people understood how neat a better shift schedule is, they were sold!

I used your shift schedule as a starting point. definate improvement vs. stock! with a few tweaks, I have a shift schedule to fit my mods & personal preference.

I just wanted to get this back on the front page.

I also had to point out to these guys that the Long Term Fuel Trim is used at WOT for these vehicles. They kept saying that it didn't use it, but I had a Wideband datalog that showed the AFR go up by around .4 when I reflashed the computer with the same tune, so all that happened was that my Long Term Fule Trim went from 5% to 0%. This is probably another reason why we don't need a CAI tune. It helps a little anyway. They did look into it and said that it is only used if it makes it richer. It will not lean it out. They should have already known this if they logged the AFR on the dyno before and after a road test. They should have seen it shift after the long term correction built up. This makes it difficult to tune at the race track. You need to start with a fresh tune so you have 0's in your Long term or just know that you have to offset your adjustments by that much. Then once you get your AFR dialed in at the track with 0LTFT, then you have to go back a readjust it after your LTFT's build up to compensate for that. Pain in the butt!

How about that 4th gear shift control?

good info on WOT LTFT's. did not know that. thanks for sharing!

on the CMR forum, Johan said he would put 3-4, 4-5, 5-4, & 4-3 shift control on his "to do" list. would be nice if Johan would officially chime in on this forum.

when you are tuning your truck, go to "modify tune" and select "transmission".

Guys, when there is something to report, we'll gladly address it.

Its not fair to keep starting threads asking for things, that we already know you want, then get upset when we dont reply.

Right now, bottom line, Johans job is to get tunes developed for 2011 models, thats it.
The owners of the company have made it clear that he needs to get 2011 support done, as thats how we make our living.
Once that is done, ideally there may be some time freed up for him to look into mapping some more stuff out.
Please keep this in mind:
Superchips has had DCX Ram HEMI tuning since before we ever started to think about it, yet they just recently released trans control, does that maybe indicate how incredibly complex it is and how incredibly difficult it is to map this stuff out, and then determine how it all works, and then put it into a useable format for the end user?

Thanks
