2005 5.9 3500 can i use performance tune for towing?

I just bought a 2006 5.9 3500 Dodge Ram 2WD long bed with 61k miles & 410 rear end. Truck belonged to a retired gentleman & its flawless so i am sure it was cared for very well.

I installed a predator performance tune last week & i am loving the added power & fuel economy. 28-29mpg on the highway @ 70mph. The truck runs well on the performance tune idle seems a little different but not bad & the truck shifts better.

I have a 30 foot enclosed race car trailer that I tow on long 500 mile trips. As i was moving it around this weekend i started wondering if i need to change to the Tow settings for these trips? If so whats the difference between the tunes other that the obvious HP TQ difference? Is it safe to tow on the performance tune?

The higher the tune the higher your EGT's will probably get, if you have gauges you can monitor this. Don't believe your overhead computer for your mileage either, you need to hand calculate.

I dont have an EGT gauge do you suggest I change to the tow tune for the long haul?

Tow tune if pulling more than 8K pounds, or if you'll be seeing many grades.

If smooth sailing and no grades, and total weight is under 8K pounds, you should be able to use the Performance tune.
EGT is always a good idea, tuned or not

Thanks trailer, race car are & all my race junk are over 8K so ill switch to the tow tune. Whats the difference of the 2 tunes other than the obvious HP & TQ numbers?
