2010 Challenger part throttle pinging
I have a 2010 Challenger R/T auto, and on the 91 octane canned tune I am hearing *clackity clack* at part throttle. I know what ping sounds like and I datalogged STKR and LTKR to confirm that this is pinging. It's pulling 13 to 15 of timing every time I hear the noise, and it is occurring every single time I barely feather the throttle. I'm not even getting on it, I'm not talking WOT throttle runs here, but barely easing into the throttle at 2000 RPM or below in traffic. I have a full tank of 91 octane. Very disappointed, I just got the Predator and I'm already considering returning or selling it.

that is not a common issue....not at all.
Thats a ton of KR. Sounds like you have some really poor fuel in there.
Log the stock tune, I bet you'll be surprised how much KR you'll see....

I get part throttle KR, but only like 5-6°. It normally due to the tranny being in the wrong gear and causing the motor to lug. Try using the Autostick to select a lower gear and see if it happens.

I understand what you are saying, but I'm seeing an enormous amount of timing being pulled, and I am hearing pinging. This is real.Mike_Levy wrote:I get part throttle KR, but only like 5-6°. Re: RE: 2010 Challenger part throttle pinging
Thanks for the response, Mike. Perhaps it is bad fuel. I'll put the stock tune back in and run this tank out, fill up another tank of 91 from somewhere else, and try again. I'll also datalog with the stock tune and see if the KR continues. Before starting all of this I had done that with the stock tune and a tank of 89 and all looked well.mikel wrote:that is not a common issue....not at all.

Well, unfortunately I've put the stock tune back in, and I'm not seeing any KR. It could still be bad fuel. The best I can do at this point is run this tank out, try fuel from another place, and try the 91 tune again and hope I don't have any issues. At least for the time being I can enjoy firmer shifting. The car is all stock except for the Predator.

You really need to put a catch can on that.

RE: Re: RE: 2010 Challenger part throttle pinging
I'm considering it, but I'm having a hard time believing that the amount of knock I'm seeing and hearing is from the lack of a catch can. I'm sure there are plenty of people running the 91 octane canned tune without a catch can that are not having this issue. Either that, or they don't know what pinging sounds like and haven't bothered to datalog KR. I also don't remember reading anywhere in the instructions that the 91 canned tune required a catch can.
RE: Re: RE: 2010 Challenger part throttle pinging
I have yet to see a Diablo tune that makes any changes to the part throttle timing.
All timing and A/F changes are made only to the WOT.
So as long as you stay out of WOT, the car should run as good(or bad) as it does stock.
You haven't touched the MBT timing have you?
Can you post your "Last tune Written" with the 91tune flashed?

RE: Re: RE: 2010 Challenger part throttle pinging
All I did was install the 91 octane canned tune. I absolutely did not touch anything in the tune, I did not even go into the modify tune menu for the canned tune. Sure, I can post the last written tune, but that would be the stock tune, as I put the stock tune back.
I didn't think the canned tunes did anything for part throttle, either, but I still had *audible* knock and the datalogger telling me KR was up to 15 degrees at less than 20% throttle below 2000 RPM. I'm stumped, too. Issue disappeared completely once the stock tune was reinstalled.

Well, post your last tune written. We'll take a look at it.

Right now that would be the stock tune, but I can certainly post the canned tune here when I install it back on my next fill up.
RE: Re: RE: 2010 Challenger part throttle pinging
there similar problems on the ram hemi's too. They have yet to solve it. My truck doesnt sound like its pinging as bad as ur but there always ST and LT knock in part throttle mode. Put the stock tune back in and it goes bye bye. i tried all kinds of different gases with no luck. right now running a stock modified tune (everything in the 87 can tune but no difference in timing).
Last year they did start adressing the issue then stopped what ever happened who knows thats how myself and toyo were given ds tunes that had the stock timming put in as i dont think they no whats going on and as far as the ds tunes having no part throttle adj. made to the tunes thats bs as i went to a cmr tuner and they leaned out the fuel at part throttle and change the tiiming curve and who knows what else they did also how can you get better miliage for a tune if nothings been done to the part throttle settings and again i dont understand why you would have a 87 oct tune for a truck that needs no less then 89 .
Agian these tunes have been nothing but problems in one way or anouther for almost everbody.
