Loss of low end torque

Post by BlackR/T6Speed »

I just installed a set of JBA catless midpipes on my 2009 chally r/t. It feels like I have lost some low end power. I thought it was suppose to add hp and torque not take it away. How can I get it back?

The Hemi's need backpressure. When I blew out my cat, I lost 30hp and 41ft/lbs (and thats on a built 6.1. The 5.7 would be even worse.). The only way you're gonna get the power back is to put on cats.

Well crap. Looks like I will be putting my stock midpipes back on. Anyone want to buy a used set of catless midpipes? Thanks for the quick reply Mike.

Your other option is to build the motor for top end power. Heads, cam, headers, etc. The catless pipes probably did help at very high rpms, but at the expense of low end. Since you have a 6 speed, you have the option of keeping the revs up all the time. It'll badly hurt your economy, but its an option.
