How do you restore a tune from the "extra" tunes

Post by dlively11 »

I had to get my car smogged which meant removiung my Vararam. I had the 91 tune and modifed it quite a bit to fine tune it. When I put the stock intake back on it threw codes for being too lean. I loaded a stock tune not the orginal backup. Before doing this I had it save my tune in the "extra" bin whatever that is. Can I reload the old custom 91 tune I had easily?

Drove it about 10 miles no codes. Do I have to drive it more before I can take it in to smog it ? Wasnt sure since it basically wrote the PCM I didnt think it would store any of the codes or would it ?

You may need more miles before you smog it.

The old tune should go back in no problem.

What if I use the "restore original backup" option? Would I still have to Drive it a bit to smog it then? Also if you use the restore original will the tune I saved in the "extra" bin still be there to use later or will it get cleared ?

Thank you

after you flash it, everything starts over, so you have to drive it a full drive cycle if you flash it again.

I put the the stock tune on the car that you can modify but didnt touch it. No more codes being thrown so I think its ok. I thought you had to drive like 100 miles or more for it to complete all the tests ...

no... fuel trims you'd need to put on about 50-75 miles for them to get relearned...

but the emissions readiness tests go by drive cycles...

I had a Grand Prix that I drove 130 miles after I had a Code thrown for the EGR being disconnected . I fixed it and took it in after the 130 miles, they said it passed everything but still hadnt reset everything and I needed to drive it more. Different on dif cars or was that because I didnt reflash the PCM on that car ? I just pulled the battery cable for 15 min and code was cleared and never came back. Just curious if you might know why that car took so many miles.

Thanks again you guys are great !

nope, dunno...

only thing I can think of, is, that you drove it continuous... a "drive cycle" has specific points it has to hit... from temps, to idle, to rpms, etc etc... as explained in that link I posted...

aaah, you disconnected the EGR... and you didn't have it tuned to disable the EGR items in the tune... that's why...
