Part-throttle shift RPM's way too high in 05 Magnum RT

Post by flaircraft »

I was able to successfully upload a canned tune (91 oct) to my '05 Magnum R/T with my U7135. Upon driving the car, I immediately noticed that the car would not shift out of first gear on my street (25mph limit) even if I let completely off the gas at 25mph. Driving the car at higher speeds, no matter how lightly I am on the accelerator, the 1-2 shift doesn't occur until about 3400 RPM and 2-3 doesn't come in until 3900 RPM. 3-4 doesn't occur until I am going over 70mph. Upon deceleration, the downshift points are also much higher than they should be, although not as high as the upshift RPM's. I don't remember the stock low-throttle shift RPM's but obviously they were much lower.

After driving the car for about 20 minutes, I used the Predator to make a "quick change" and made sure that the shift points and firmness were stock (I had raised them slightly before driving the car the first time) but this made no difference. I then used it to reset the TCM adaptives but still no difference. At this point I am at a loss. Please advise.

when you loaded the tune, and put the car in gear did you feel the car lurch real hard? and when you were driving did it seem like there was no power?

I'll ask you the same question as I always ask when there are shifting issues; Did you change the axle ratio?

Next thing to do is disconnect the battery and do a hard reset.

Mike -

I have not changed the gear ratio in the car. The only mods I have done to the car besides uploading the canned tune are a catback exhaust and removed the air intake silencer. Will doing a hard reset have a different effect than using the Predator to reset the TCM? How long should I have it disconnected for? A hard reset shouldn't cause the ECU to lose the uploaded tune right?

The power seems fine. The trans doesn't engage any differently than it always has before.

A hard reset will just reset all the computer systems in the car. Its needed sometimes on the 2005s. The 05s seem to have alot more issues then other years. Nothing will be lost. Just disconnect the negative battery cable for like a minute and then reattach it. More often then not, that fixes most issues.

Tonight I disconnected the negative cable on the battery and left it for about half an hour. After hooking it back up I drove the car, no change in the high shifting RPM's. I checked the trans fluid level too just to be sure, since I know these NAG1 trannys are very sensitive to fluid level. The level was a little low but still within the acceptable range; I added about a pint of fluid to the trans to get the level to the high end of the acceptable range and then drove it, but still no difference...
