5.7L HEMI based 392 tuning
I was wondering if in the near future sometime i decide to converte my 08 5.7 hemi to a 392( via inertia motorsports) , would there be any tuning issues with the diablo? Could i just continue to use the can tunes in the diablo? or would i need a cmr tune? Anything of that nature

RE: 5.7L HEMI based 392 tuning
Its basically just a larger displacement version of the same motor, so if you just stroked it you could probably get away with a canned tune for a while, but since it wouldn't make sense not to cam it at the same time, a CMR is the best way to go.
RE: 5.7L HEMI based 392 tuning
kool and what about the mds? if i wanted to keep the mds in the motor, i would just have to keep the 4 special rollers right? or does that depend on if i get a new block? would it have the same oil passages to make those hydrolic rollers work?

RE: 5.7L HEMI based 392 tuning
The lifters allow MDS, so you'd need to keep those. But you also need to make sure you get a cam compatible with it. Most are not, because when guys mod for performance, they have no desire to keep MDS.
RE: 5.7L HEMI based 392 tuning
That is true, but I just think it would b unique to keep the mds incorporated. But I see your theory. Now, lets say I dont keep the mds, and run the the 93 can tune and forget to turn the mds off, can that have any ill effect?

RE: 5.7L HEMI based 392 tuning
If you don't keep the lifters I don't think anything will happen. Plus, most cams will need a CMR tune, which would turn off the MDS.
RE: 5.7L HEMI based 392 tuning
yeah, so looks like a non-mds cam is the way to go. what cam do u think would be good for that application ? most every forum i looked at concerning cams have said that sidewinder is the way to go. but that is for the stock application. and i want to keep it emission legal

RE: 5.7L HEMI based 392 tuning
I'm not thrilled with any of the Inertia/Frank Racing cams. They don't seem to perform the way their numbers suggest they should.
I'm running a Comp 268H on my Jeep, and even though its a smallish cam, it still got me into the 11's. Exactly the opposite of the Inertias. It performed better then it theoretically should have. The Arrington 586 would probably work well for you. I was planning on upgrading to one of those, but found out it wasn't gonna work with forced induction, which I have every intention of going with.
Are you doing anything with the heads? Of course you'll need valve springs, but any port and polish work?

yeah i was thinking about porting and polishing but im new to the "in depth" preformance world. would inertia do that? i maen if i am paying $5500 i dont think they would have a problem doing that.

RE: 5.7L HEMI based 392 tuning
would it be benifital to go with head studs instead of head bolts?

RE: 5.7L HEMI based 392 tuning
Studs are always beneficial. If you have space to get the heads on with them you may as well. I didn't have that option. The Jeeps engine bay is super tight, so we had to install the headers on the heads before putting the heads on the block. There was no possible way to get the assembly onto a set of studs so we used bolts.
