2009 Ram HEMI E85 Tune

Post by RamTex »

Just throwing this idea out there seeing as e85 is a higher octane and can boast much higher power gains. Would love to see this come out in future updates if possible.

The Hemis don't like Ethanol. They claim its higher octane, but it knocks like crazy. Even E10-E15 is no good.

I have no idea what happened there. Somebody sent it to me, saying mine could be worse. It looks to be a major case of detonation. Could be ethanol related. I know my SRTs have always knocked like crazy on any amount of ethanol. They're much happier on straight gasoline (which I can only get now in 5 gallon cans for $70. :().

You'd be amaxzed how forgiving e85 is.
Cars that lean out on E85 dont pop nearly as easy, and cars that have issues holding timing with race gas are often amazed at how much spark they can run with E85.

I love the stuff.

Thats great for the LS cars, but still the Hemi was never designed to be run on E85, where the LS based Vortecs were. And when it doesn't even like E10, who knows hows it will react to E85? The Hemis just seem to like plain old 100 octane E0 with a little NitroMethane. Minimal knock, maximum power.

not sure why you say that.

The LS was not designed for Eanything, and there are flexfuel DCX vehicles everywhere....

The Vortecs, which are basically truck versions of the LS, are sold as Flex fuel. The Hemis are sold for regular gas only. The 4.7s and such are sold as flex fuel, but not the Hemi.

Theres nothing about the internal engine design that makes it better fr use with Ethanol...

Detonation is easy with e85 but he is right about tuning to get rid off/ I still wouldnt run e85 here is why. E85 vehicles i thought off the assembly line get dif fuel line hoses, different o rings in the injectors etc. E85 might eat/dry out some of the rubber parts in non e85 vehicles.

100% incorrect.

its not a myth.
its not a joke.
It is 100% fact, you can run e85 in any late model vehicle without changing out the entire fuel system.
Problem is, with its extra 30% required, you'll tap your fuel system out quicker, thus most people that decide to run e85 are running an aftermarket fuel system.
When we shop for fuel system parts, we dont buy anything specific for E85, we just buy stuff that will support 30% more power on Gas than we need ;)

Do you have a tune for running E85 in a 09 Ram? If you do I would like to try it when I get back to the states(I'm working in one of the sand box's right now) I have always been told that Ethanol has more BTU's than gas which = more power, is that true in your experience? Thanks
