Exporting original backup file

I needed to send my original backup to PPP to get a custom tune as I have the CNC'd heads and live at 6500 feet altitude. I updated my car to DCX's latest then used the tool to save my car's original backup. I then brought the tool inside and saved the backup to my PC. I noticed the file extension exported from the tool to my PC was .drg. I later noticed in your manual you state to save the file with an .frg extension.

Do I need to resave/resend the file or can it simply be renamed?

I had revision 14 on my tool when it arrived. After saving my car's original backup and exporting it to my PC to send to PPP, I updated my tool (something odd about that phrase) to your latest revision 16a.
I read somewhere I may need to re-install the back-up to the vehicle and resave...I have not loaded any tunes to my vehicle however.

Do I need to do anything with the original back-up stored on the tool?

Thanks for the response Mike.
Since I didn't restore the back-up before updating the tool, what would you suggest I do? Is this done in case of a corruption of the original tune during the update process? I do have a copy of the backup original tune on 2 PCs. Is it possible to overwrite what is on the tool with the copy from my PC?
I have not loaded any tunes to the car yet.

Got your response on LXForums to my above 2nd question. Thanks. I am waiting for Andy at PPP to put a tune together suitable to my application.
I do want to make sure my original backup is ok in case I need to reload it but if you're confident the update didn't affect it in this case I am good with that. I will restore it in the future before updating when applicable revisions come out.
