Ahh Man! You gotta be KIDDING ME! New Pred smoked at calib

'05 Magnum R/T 5.7

I was all excited... Got my Predator (U7135 v9r28) today from a local authorized dealer (4 Wheel Parts - Redondo Beach, CA), came home and hooked it up. Needs Calibration update.

OK, went through that process on the computer, everything downloaded to the tool just fine. Took it back out tho the car and hooked it up again.

"Calibration update failed" -- and what's this? Smoke??? Unplugged immediately, and came to the forum here to figure out what is going on.

Now I see that I'm not the first one to have this happen.

So... Looking at the RMA form, it looks like I'm on the hook for shipping? Please say it ain't so. I bought local so I wouldn't have to deal with that...

What's the skinny here? There must be some consideration if this is a known issue right?

If you bought local they should take care of it for you and replace then ship it back for a credit or repair...

YES, SEE IF THEY CAN SWAP IT OUT FOR YOU BEFORE SENDING IT IN FOR WARRANTY.

I'll call them as soon as they open.

But -- what's the status of of the Predator and the '05 Magnum? Is there anything I need to look for or do differently to make sure it doesn't happen again? I followed all of the instructions to a "T" last time...

The deeper I dig, I'm seeing that this looks to be a problem with a specific run of Magnums and the Predator nor playing nicely - apparently I got (un)lucky.

OK -- got the new one, and this one had r9v29 on it already. Updated calibration and went to the car...

Hooked it up, and started the calibration, and dang it -- smoke again... But THIS time, it completed the calibration, and even uploaded a tune!

So -- this one smoked, but still worked... Go with it? Or is failure imminent anyway?

if it smoked, it's probably shot at this point and won't work again... I know I wouldn't try it if it was my vehicle...
