Bouncing off rev limiter

Post by SubTexel »

Hello,

After installing the Performance CAI tune when in drive and WOT my engine bounces off the rev limiter for a couple of seconds (which gear I am not sure) and then finally changed gears. So I installed the latest update (17) (I had the initial release before) and tried again, same issue. I am stock minus an intake (Airraid) and I did NOT mess with any settings, just using the out of the box tune (happens on the 91 CAI tune as well) and the 93/91 Performance tunes also. (So all of them).

At least someone else is having the same issue ... and I raised my shift points as well as my limiter by 300

I have a 2007 Grand Cherokee SRT8. It sounds like the problem you are having is the same with me. It has nothing to due with the tune, it is a transmission issue. I was told, and have posted this somewhere else, that the transmission is not shifting fast enough, therefore the rpm approaches the rev limiter, there is a slight to large hesitation, then a shift and you are on your way. I don't know what the answer is, but it is a balance between rev limiter and shift points. Good luck.

Well the thing is it never did it stock, and when I return it to stock it runs great. (No bouncing off of the rev limiter).

Edit: Forgot to mention this is a 2007 Charger SRT8

My understanding is that when performance increases, the "prediction time" the transmission uses to anticipate a shift decreases. (I'm sure these are not the technical terms used by engineers) therefore I am not surprised that you experienced this after a performance upgrade.

I'm having a simalar issue. But I notice it is much worse at 3/4 throttle, it studders between 5500 & 6400 RPM (feels like it is bouncing off rev limiter) before shifting to next gear. At WOT it hesitates much less but is still an issue. I have an 06 charger STR8 W/ trasmission update (did it before update too). I am running the 93 oct. CAI performance r17 tune with raised shift points. This is the only gripe I have with this tuner, otherwise I am completly satisfied.

Has this been address yet, I have not seen any reply from D/S on this yet?

Mine also did this stock. Come to find out, my speed sensor plug (think thats what it was) was leaking transition fluid. Got a new plug and problem went away.

Checked and no leak @ all. (Shouldn't either as I only have 2k miles on it, bought it new with 0 miles back in October).

Mike suggested I raise the rev limit by 1-200 rpm and this did not fix the issue (seemed to do it a little less, dunno..) So I raised it to 300 and it still does it.

If you raised the limiter by 300 rpm and you are still hitting it, you may need to have the tranny checked out.

Thanks

That I did, tech's found nothing wrong with it (of course with the tune pulled) They could not reproduce the issue (with either me or the tech driving and opening it up @ WOT). The tech scanned for codes, etc... Nothing. :( This issue only creeps up with the tunes installed, which sucks because I love what the predator has done for my car.

Anyone? :( Still does it, also had to pull the 93 tune because of KR (didn't seem to have an issue with that on the older version of software...). Running the 91 with raised shift points, and raised limiter by 300... Hopefully I don't run into this on the Denali (just bought the 7194, came in yesterday). :)
