Engine Swap 03 silverado 4.8 to 6.0 - U7195

Post by tsmith247 »

I bought my 03 silverado new and programmed it with a hypertech, set it back to stock and sold the hypertech. I recently bought a U7195 and like the performance it provides with a stock tune. I am planning on swapping the 4.8 out with a 6.0 engine. I am swapping the 3.42 rear gear to 4.10 and keeping the auto transmission stock.

What would you suggest in order to get the ECU setup to run the 6.0 engine?

You will basically just need to Purchase a Custom Tune so that your PCM will work with the new engine.
Thank You

Assuming I burned the stock tune back into my truck, would my U7195 be able to tune the PCM in my truck if I were to get the dealership to put a stock tune in for a 6.0 engine? Dollarwise, the dealership is going to charge me about $100 an a custom tune will run $250...just makes sence to me. Also, is there software available to modify the predator tunes?

I have been researching this for a few days now...
I am looking to purchase a 6.0L engine and swap it into my 03 silverado. If i were to get the PCM that came with the 6.0L engine would I then be able to simply tune the new 6.0L and it's PCM with my existing predator? All this assuming that i reload the stock tune back into my 4.8 prior to the swap.

Yes you would, you would have to get a custom tune with vats turned off unless you bring it to the dealer for a vats relearn, vats is the vehicle anti theft system.

If you send me a copy of your original backup file from the Predator, I can set you up with the proper tune for a 6.0.
You'll load it to the Predator as a custom tune, then put that tune in the truck.
No need to swap out the PCM.

Thanks
