If the ECM is encrypted similar to the kind of encryption used on the internet like 128-bit DES, SSL, etc... then I do not see how anyone outside of the factory can crack this unless the encryption keys get leaked??? To my knowledge 128-bit SSL has still never been cracked.

They aren't gonna have a choice. If the coding isn't released, people are going to leave Chrysler in DROVES. Some of us already did, and more will follow. You screw with the aftermarkets ability to make changes, you lose the enthusiast customers.
Plus, the updates for the new SRT8s were half assed. There is absolutely no reason they should have less then 500hp. Look at the competition. For the Challenger: top Mustang has 540 and that will be going up for 2013. Camaro ZL1 has 580. For the Charger/300, sorta: E63 has 518, CTS-V has 556, M5 has 560, XFR has 510. And the Jeep: X5/X6 has 555, Cayenne Turbo has 500, Turbo S 550, all the S/C Range Rovers have 510. Sure the competition costs more, but that doesn't stop Chrysler for charging more for the basic Challengers then the competition, so why should it matter here? Same goes for the ancient and weak 5 speed tranny. Couldn't wait for the 8 speed? And then they had the nerve to jack up the prices! The damn Jeep can knock on $60k's door, loaded!!! Way, way too much for what they're giving you.
Jack up prices, half ass the updates and then have the nerve to lock the PCMs so no more power can be made??? See ya Chrysler!! My 2 SRT8s will be the end of my Chrysler vehicles if this is the way things are gonna be. Glad I bought the CTS-V instead of a third.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Are the 2011-2012 Dodge codes really cra
this whole situation really blows. just got back from the dealer today and was really pushing the service department to at least disable this damn mds while i wait for the diablo. they said they can not do it. this is crap cause im sure it can be done. its my truck why the hell cant i have the mds shut off!? so annoying! so i guess from the info im reading... its pretty safe to say since i have a 2011 ram that i can plan on putting my predator up for sale? that would really suck!

People aren't going "to leave in droves" because there isn't a tuner for the vehicle they have, be realistic.

"I couldn't care less" means it is impossible to care less - "I could care less" just makes you look stupid.

I can tell you that as of this post, there are 43,773 members of the LX forums and I would say that a significant percentage of them own some sort of a tuning device and if they can't tune anymore, I could see them heading for the exits and into the arms of Ford and GM (at least until Ford and GM encrypt their stuff too). I am thinking a Stang convertible for my next car.

Wanna bet? Anybody who wants to mod their car will sell their cars and buy Mustangs or Camaros. You need tuning to do other mods. If they won't let tuning happen, then their cars are worthless. The Caddy forums are full of guys who have converted from SRT8s to CTS-Vs.

Yeah...no tuning means no headers, no turbos, no superchargers, no heads/cams/strokers, etc.
I can see this becoming an issue after a while...
There was a thread on chally talk where a guy canceled his 2011 392 order and went and bought a 2011 GT500 instead...

Chrysler 300c
2006 - 143,647
2007 - 120,636
2008 - 62,352
2009 - 38,606
2010 - 37,116
Total: 402,357
Dodge Charger
2008 - 97,367
2009 - 60,651
2010 - 75,397
Total: 233,415
Grand Total:635,772.
This is without the 2006 or 2007 numbers for the Charger. So what you're telling me is this amazing sample of 43,773, 7% of all sales, is a good indicator? Let's pretend for a second you have even a semi-valid argument and break this down a bit more. Of that whopping 7% of sales, how many are active? Of those active members how many own the vehicle still? Of those active members that still own the vehicle how many have tuners? You can't produce any numbers for those questions, yet you could see "significant percentage" of them leaving because there is no tuner? Chrysler should be really concerned...
<sigh>... Yes, I'd bet very willing to be Chrysler will not loose a noticeable amount of sales due to their PCM being encrypted. The SRT-8 market is a fraction of the actual sales. That, combined with the fact that most, if not all of those that switched from SRT-8 to CTS-V have vehicles that are capable of being flashed. So, you can't attribute that change to encrypted PCMs. Not to mention your generalization of "Anybody who wants to mod their car will sell their cars and buy Mustangs or Camaros" is completely off base. Many people throw a intake or exhaust on and call it good. Sure a tune would take better advantage of that, but it isn't necessary. There's also the standalone route for serious modifications.Mike_Levy wrote:Wanna bet? Anybody who wants to mod their car will sell their cars and buy Mustangs or Camaros. RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Are the 2011-2012 Dodge codes really cra
A lot of us didn't leave because we had cars that couldn't be flashed, we left because 1. We couldn't buy new SRT8s, because they can't be flashed, and 2. The new SRT8s, quite frankly, suck. The changes didn't keep up with the market. The 392 is underpowered, they still have the shitbox 5 speed Mercedes gearbox with the cheap Chinese internals, the rear end gearing is horrible with no mechanical limited slip and the styling has gone pure ricer/gaudy.
With all the electronics in cars these day, a stand alone is not a viable option. The average car has 22 computer modules. Each one needs to know what the others are doing, thats not possible with a stand alone ECU.

Umm can I ask how you got that PCM key? If this was the military, that would be, how you say, classified info. Id really like to know how you got that.fordomatic69 wrote:So what is all the talk about LX part number 04060708AZ - PCM unlock key module?? I smell a rat and it's name is Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep
