U7191 Octane setting on 2005 C6

Post by quicktrip »

Recently purchased Predator U7191 for my 2005 manual C6/LS-2. Prior to installation, had following upgrades: VaraRam Snake Charmer intake, Granatelli MAS w/cold air tune and Corsa Sport cat-back exhaust. This setup yielded a noticable increase in throttle response and much quicker rpm buildup to the limiter, along with an increase in tire break away on hard shifts. Highway mileage also increase by around 1.5 mpg.
Before installing the Predator tune, I phoned tech support to make sure my setup was supported by the installed tunes. I was told to replace the Granatelli MAS with my factory one, as it would cause a lean condition with the Predator tune, plus I should use the 91 octane performance tune since here in Nevada we are stuck with California's crappy gas (plus our average altitude is over 4,000 ft). I did as instructed and it seems to work OK (the cags bypass is great), but there really doesn't feel like there is much difference than before the tune installation. In fact, WOT seems to produce less tire spin on the 1-2 shifts. Is this due to some TM changes? Or is there a power change with the 91 octane performance tune?
Also, I do a lot of driving back east where the octane gets better. Does the 91 octane tune adjust for octane increases as the factory tune does? Or will the tune work like the factory if I use the 93 octane tune?
I do use this for some track time with the higher octane fuel available, plus some autocrossing and the aforementioned long trips. It's a driver!!
Lot of questions, hope you can answer them all.

The gains from the tune on the C6 Corvettes yields approximately 15rwhp. Most of the gains on this particular application are found in the upper RPM range, as the factory tune was pretty close already. We have dyno sheets available if you would like to see one.
The 91 tune only makes a few less Hp than the 93 tune, so I do not think that is the issue.
I am sure that if you back to back the tune at the track against the stock tune, you will see a gain in trap speed of at least 1-2 mph, which is the best indicator of the power any car is making.
The tunes do not adjust for different octane, if you wanted to use 93 I would suggest using the 93 tune achieve maximum performance.

Thanks, Mike. Am I to assume there is no modification to the factory TM settings?
