Expecting new predator...(*****new questions*****)

Post by corny40 »

According to UPS, I'll be getting my U9171 this friday :D and I was wondering about getting started. I've heard different things about removing this fuse or that fuse, but can't seem to pin down the exact info for my specific vehicle, 2006 Impala SS. I was hoping someone could help here. :?

Since I'm here, I have another question. I've got a CAI and a custom exhaust, thinking about a catted DP, should I worry about a custom tune?

Thanks!!! :D :D

OK, fuses. If the vehicle has OnStar, you'll need to determine which fuse powers that system, and pull it during programming.
If no OnStar, no need to pull fuses, just be sure that EVERYTHING is turned off in the vehicle.

The mods you list will not require a custom tune, but you will be able to dial them in with the Predator.

Thanks

Oh, I know. I know. I've been reading.

He seems like a very knowledgeable guy. He's already offered help at ls1tech, but you already know that.

Hey, that reminds me, are there going to be some stickers in my Diablo, or do I need to start hittin' y'all up now?

LOL... thanks guys!

yeah, if you have onstar, the fuse is on the inside passenger side fuse panel down at the floor. Take the cover off, and you'll see 9 fuses I believe - 3 rows of 3 fuses - it's the red 10amp fuse right in the middle. You'll know you have the right one when the onstar light (the one on the right side) on the rearview mirror is off when you turn the key on.

Install the performance tune of your choice, then do a couple logs and see where your ltft is at and then we can go from there. I know on mine, the CAI I put in made me lean, so I saw + ltft at normal cruise and had to make adjustments accordingly.

As for stickers, it depends on where you bought it from probably - if you ordered it right from Diablosport, maybe they started putting them in the boxes - if not, you can start hittin' Mike up now!

get all of them... you did get the PC Interface kit, right? you'll need it.

Check your Predator before doing anything - you can power it up with the AC adapter from the interface kit or plug it into the car and after it boots up, check the version number at the top of the screen. You want it to be at least 8r06. If it's not, then you'll need to download the 8r07 update from the site and update your Predator.

the dataviewer is used on your PC to download logs from the Predator and view them.

the DSDownloader is used to update your Predator to the latest version using the .crom files on the site (the 8r07 file).

The GMLS2Interface is used to export tunes FROM the Predator TO your PC, and import custom tunes TO the Predator FROM your PC.

And then of course the files at the bottom of the page are the user instructions on how to do it all.

Sorry if I seem a little "behind the curve" with this question, but I'm definitely one of those "better safe than sorry" kinda guys.

The Predator manual says, "Connect the Predator into vehicle’s diagnostic port and turn the ignition key to ON position." Okay, two things here:

I'm a pretty big guy and I'm not sure if I can plug in the Predator while seated in the car AND the door is closed. Would it be all right if I plugged in the Predator, sat in the car, closed the door, then turned the key?

Next, what exactly is the ON position in a 2006 Impala SS? The manual says...

A (OFF): This is the only position in which the ignition key can be inserted or removed. This position locks the ignition and transaxle. It is a theft-deterrent feature.

B (ACCESSORY): This position lets the radio and windshield wipers operate while the engine is off. To use ACCESSORY, turn the key clockwise.

C (RUN): This position is where the key returns to after the vehicle is started. This position displays some of the warning and indicator lights.

D (START): This position starts the engine.

I know it's not A or D, but B and C I'm not too sure about. My money is on B, but like I said, "better safe than sorry."

Finally, at the end when the tune is installed and the screen says to "Please turn the key OFF. Then wait 10 sec and turn the key ON" does that mean to turn the car on, or just put the key back to the ON position (whatever that is) that it was in during programming?

Thanks! :D

yes, as long as the door is closed, interior lights off, radio off, heater/ac fan off, onstar fuse removed, etc etc - you'll be good to go. You don't want anything on while it's trying to read/write tunes. A power spike or drop in battery voltage could make it fail.

yes, I use the first click forward (accessory) in my Monte.

If you go to the second click (run), that turns on all the dash indicator lights and the DRL's, which we don't want - since we don't want any type of battery drain. Just go to the first accessory spot and you'll be all set.

Just like it says... turn the key off, wait 10-12 seconds, then turn it back on to the accessory position that you had it at when you installed the tune.
