Starter won't turn after Tune and can't reinstall backup

Post by eugene57 »

My Preator Serial # is: 7f00a982
Port - U7191 gm_E40
Ver- v.9r03
Hardware- UNIV_REV2
Bus- SCI CAN

Calid - 1wd58c869255979A
Vin - 2G1WD58C869255979

I was updating a Program Tune in my car, but forgot to turn the ignition key on.

It started the update. The lights blinked and I heard some of the usual sounds. The Predator said to turn the ignition off for 10 seconds and then back on. That

is when I realized I hadn't turned the ignition on to begin with. I disconnected the U7191. Then tried to start the car. The lights and all came on as usual, but the

starter will not turn over or start the car.

I turned the ignition off, re-connected the U7191, turned the ignition on, selected load a Tune. The U7191 listed the SSR and Trailblazer SS, but not my Impala

SS.

If I select SSR or Trailblazer SS, the U7191 says "Unable to read vehicle type. Please make sure ignition is on but not running"
or "Unable to read p/n of first calibration file."

If I try to restore the original backup from the U7191 it says "Invalid license. The tune in this vehicle does not match the last tune written."

If I try to 'Force' a restore it says "Feature is intended for dealer use only", then I press Continue, it displays "8C1C E03A 4D18 7219 0D32", and asks for a

password I don't have.

Calibrations are: 12604792: ECM Software
822083584: VehSys Cal

Call tech support in the morning. They'll have to force it. This is why you need to make sure you're using the right tuner. Why would you use a Tuner for 2 trucks on your car? What made you think it would work? They have different part numbers for a reason.

try disconnecting your negative battery cable for about 20 minutes... then reconnect it and try starting it up...

if that doesn't work, call tech support...

Ah... now that is the strange part and why I included it in my post. It IS the right Tuner for the GTO/Impala SS. Says on the box, says on the back of the Predator (little white sticker). Somehow, when things fracked up, the SSRs showed up on the screen instead of the original cars. Now figure that one out.

:D
Called DiabloSport. The walked me through a 'Force' restore of the stock calibration, and all is good.

The car started easily, where before, the starter wouldn't even turn. The check engine light was on though.

I hooked the Predator back up and, after booting, turned the key to the on position (I didn't forget this time and won't ever again). Went into Diagnostics and Check Codes. No engine codes were found. I selected Clear Codes, anyway. It said it cleared the codes. I unplugged the tool, turned the ignition off, then started the car. The check engine light was no longer on.

Test drove the car and it ran normally. :D Thank you DiabloSport!!

Comment: I have an 06 Impala SS. I installed a K and N Air Charger kit. It actually hurt my performance! I took it off. I then bought the Predator, installed the Performance NoDoD tune. BIG difference! BIG improvement! Not only in performance, but the engine now makes a real nice 'roar' when it is cranking up. Sah-weet! I reinstalled the Air Charger. Now it made a nice difference in performance. Lesson, buy the DiabloSport Predator FIRST!!!, as they cost about the same $$$.

With the two installed, the car now has a real NICE throaty roar/rumble. With just these two improvements I can mash the pedal at a 25mph roll and start the tires smoking.

I also have installed a Predator wet NOS (150-300hp) with remote bottle opener and arming, and a methanol injection for WOT.
I only use the NOS after midway through 2nd otherwise the car is uncontrollable with Torque Steer madness. WARNING! I've replaced the tranny once already $$$$$$$$$. So, I tend to keep my foot off the juice. I sure wish it had rear wheel drive!!

I've run Corvettes and 350 GT Stangs who thought they had me... until I smoked past them like they were sitting still. Watch out little Cobra! There is an Impala SS behind you... and you look real tasty!

Buy the Predator!

DO NOT fire the nitrous with a tune on the car. You'll destroy the pistons. Nitrous needs retarded timing and the Predator advances it.
