Using the Intune to program a Cam’ed Motor straight OTB?

Post by ramatorix »

I own a 2004 Dodge Ram, 1500, 4X4, 5.7L. I want to purchase a tuner I can use now (truck is pretty much stock), Once I install a 268 Comp Cam, and way later down the road when I stroke the Hemi. My question is simple, will the intune be able to tune my truck to the 268 Cam as it comes out of the box. I would appreciate anyone with actual experience using the Intune right out of the box to tune a stage 2 cam to chime in. How difficult was it? What are the steps? How well did the tune work? Can you run the cam tune on 91 octane? The more info the better. Thanks in advance.

You will be best suited with getting a custom tune. There won't be a tune on the inTune for you and you won't be able to adjust enough with the inTune for your cams.
The apostrophe does not mean "Look out, here comes an S"!

"I couldn't care less" means it is impossible to care less - "I could care less" just makes you look stupid.

I ran the Comp 268 on my Jeep. The canned tunes can run it, but not very well. I'd guess it would be even worse on the 5.7 then it was on my 6.1, since the stock 5.7 has a much smaller cam then the 6.1 does and the computer knows that. Gotta get a custom tune done to get it running right, thats for sure.

Thanks for the info gizmodo. Have you tried to tune a vehicle that has been cam’ed? What were the issues? According to comp cams the predator had the capability to enter your specific cam specs. Does the Intune have this capability? Has anyone done this? I don’t want to pay $400 for a tuner which I have to pay another $200 to make work on my truck every time I complete a modification. In that case I will just go to a shop that has the capability and pay $200 for them to tune it.

I cut a deal on my tune and did a barter, so its hard to put a number on it. If I had to guess, I'd estimate between dyno time and the tuning, it ran me about $800-$1000 in parts. That was for way more then just a cam tune though. It also had to be tuned for injectors, heads, headers and other stuff.
