MBT spark adjustment??

Post by magnuman »

I haven't downloaded the R18 update yet, but I'd like to know what the MBT spark adjustment does? In other words, what does the acronym "MBT" stand for? All seems to be working well with R17, so do I even need to update to R18? I have a 5.7. Thanks for your help.

MBT stands for Mean Brake Torque timing, in the new update, when you adjust WOT Spark, you have to adjust the MBT to the same values. If your not having issues with the r17 version, I would stay there.

I thought MBT was Maximum Brake Torque or Minimum Best Timing...

Whatever it means, its something Diablo should have addressed before adding it. Most of us have no clue what it means, but what if we went and screwed around with the settings anyway and blew something up?

As with anything else, if you do not know what it is or does, you should not be messing with it.
Besides, isn't that what these forums are for, to ask these types of questions, and get answers from people that know what they are talking about?

The PCM uses two tables to determine WOT timing.
The PCM will select the lower of the two values in whichever table it wants.
If you add timing only in the WOT table, but do not add to the MBT table, the PCM will use the lower spark value from the MBT table and you will not get advanced timing, so now we have given you the ability to properly dial in your timing.
