Downloader issue

I had been using the downloader program and installed my tune weeks ago. Now I want to install an updated crom and when I try to open the program it gets the area where I click on update (or anything else) and the program dies and goes away. Tried rebooting and uninstalling and re-installing too.

I am using Windows Vista.

Right click, go to Properties, Compatibility and run it in XP Mode

That's actually where it was. I tried with and without that and both times, it does open, waits a few seconds and just goes away...

Ahh, I think it was my AV software killing it for some reason. Opened it and it stayed open at least this time.

Also, I have the 9r12 installed. What's the preferred order for updating? Use tuner to go back to factory, then install new crom, then update car? Do I need to drive it in factory mode for awhile first? Read on your site that if I update without going back to factory that it will wipe out my factory setting?

yes, restore, update, retune.
Nothing more is needed.

Snap. Tried to upgrade from 9r12 to 9r29 (9r30 I know from earlier didn't work), but my tool still says incompatible hardware.

This tool must really be old. Might be time to sell and upgrade.
Was hoping too to at least adjust the fans since I have a 180 thermostat now. The only adjustments I saw on mine was ESP, tire size and transmission. Am I looking in the right area? I went through each option.

Fans are not in the Quick Adjust. When you go to install a tune you'll see a selection to Modify Tune. Thats where you change the fans.

Oh, I see. That's good. Now that I already have the tune installed, do I need to go back to stock again, then reinstall a tune with adjustments or can i just modify the tune still?

Nah, just you can just reinstall it with the changes. No need to go back to stock.
