General questions about the predator

Post by countrycorey »

I was reading the user manual on the predator that I just purchased for my truck (2000 Chevy Silverado Z71, CAI, True Duals Flowmasters) and read that it is recommended that the vehicle be filled with premium or super unleaded fuel. Why is this and how come there is no mention of an 87 octane tune in the user's manual? Any help would appreciated.

The manuals were written before we added the 87 octane tune option.

because, the diablo tunes are created for premium/super unleaded fuel - with more timing/spark advance than stock, adjusted fuel curves, etc etc.

if you run one of those tunes and only put 87 octane gas in the truck, you'll get a lot of ping/knock in your engine which will lead to problems.

Because he has a truck, not a performance car.

Need Tech help. I Have a new Diablosport Predator, Product# U7146, 99-04, sn#170433. I am trying to load Predator Performance tune for a 2004 Mercury Marauder. After I plug in, turn ignition key to "on", not running and set the parking brake The Predator responds that " vehicle not recognized in database " and and that my " CALL_ID " is " RZASAMY ". When selecting options the Predator reads my correct "VIN" and that there are no other tunes on my vehicle other than "factory". I DID NOT select any option or tune to be installed from the Predator. I disconnected the Predator. The Diablosport Predator homepage confirms that I am using the correct product for MY 2004 Mercury Marauder. My friend installed his Predator into HIS 2003 Mercury Marauder with no issues and great satisfaction which then encouraged me to purchase MY OWN Predator. Please advise. Sincerely, ETHYL1.

sounds like you need to get a PCM update from your dealer's service center so that it updates your Calibration ID, and it will then work with the predator.

your friends pcm probably had a different calibration ID than yours... have him view the CAL ID's on his, and you read them on yours, and see what's different.

Thanx for the info. Im embarrased to ask the folowing though. The acronym "ECU" refers to the electronic computer/control unit(OBD II). I forgot the meaning of "PCM". Probably the hardest question is, how do I approach the Dealer's Service center to update my Calibration ID?( without sending off red flags? ).I will check with my friends 03 Marauder to compare calibration ID's with my 04 Marauder.

if his works and it's an 03, but yours doesn't and it's an 04... post the CAL ID's here on the forum... the diablo guys may need to update the predator to support the latest/newest CAL ID which you have...
