Help with my new trinity

Post by vis184 »

Trinity version 1r08e in a 2006 GMC 1500 with a 5.3
I just purchased a new trinity and so far I like it but just need some tips on tweaking it to get the full potential out of it. I am a licensed mechanic but work on big bore diesel engines so changing parameters with the trinity with a gas engine I am a little lost on what to play with and what the results will be. In the future Im considering going with a diablew tune but not going to jump to that step quite yet. I'm looking for what parameters I can change with the trinity to squeeze a little more out of it. Mods done to the truck are: volant cold air intake, 3 inch single catback with flo pro muffler, granatelli motorsports MAF sensor (no inlet screen), and now the trinity. Was hoping to see a few more options for tunes with the trinity all there is is the 87 octane tune and the diablo tune. With the diablo tune is a higher octane required? It doesn't specify. What I am mainly looking for is a tune that will help improve towing, bought a new trailer and it's a little on the heavy side for my truck. With the 87 octane tune it was a definite improvement but wondering if tweaking some parameters will help out some more. Any help will be greatly appreciated

First remove the Granatelli MAF. It messes with the tune and is doing you no good. Then you'll need to do some logging and determine exactly what the truck is doing before the mess with anything.

Ok, that kind of sucks but if it messes with the tune I guess i'll put the stocker back in if it is going to help. When I do logging should I do logs pulling my trailer or just regular driving unloaded?

Just log for your normal driving. Theres a dashboard to log called DSLOGREDUX, or something like that. Thats the data you want to log. You'll download DSLogRedux from thier site (www.dslogredux.com), and use the log with that and it will tell you how much fuel you need to add or remove for maximum performance.

Ok, thank you very much for your help and the quick responses. Found and cleaned up my stock MAF, will install that tomorrow, then will start some logging. Actually was just reading about dslogredux on another thread will download the software and go from there. Thanks again for the help.

Ok...onto a new issue, did a pile of driving today, created two 20 minute logs of cruise data to get my LTFT's dialed in. Got home updated DS Dataviewer to latest version, got logs off trinity and converted to .csv, downloaded dslogredux 2011 x64 ver. 10.1.0.0. When using dslogredux when I verify log files I get a message that it's highly recommended I logged catalyst temps which I did not, when I click analyze I get an error message "unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click quit the application will close immediately. Access to the path C:\program files\FGBSoftware\DSLogRedux2011x64\raw_data210022268.csv is denied" Anyone know what's going on here???? Is it because i didnt log the cat temp?? Searched the forums here and can't seem to get on dslogredux forum for some reason so I haven't checked there yet. Would love to get this thing set up but things just don't seem to be going my way today.

I got the exact same message. Lew has to fix the x64 version of the software.

Ok, so what do I have to do to get it fixed? Or just wait?

nope, it's a permissions issue, not a software/applications issue....

"Access to the path C:\program files\FGBSoftware\DSLogRedux2011x64\raw_data210022268.csv is denied"

permissions on your Windows PC are not set correctly for your user account...

I'd tell ya to check out the dslogredux forums at http://dslrforum.dslogredux.com but it appears they're down...

so, you need to disabled the UAC in windows, make sure you're using an Administrator account on the PC you're running this on, etc...

Ok, thanks Lew. Will give this a shot tomorrow, I need to be up in four hours to go to to a training course 3 hours away. Would have been nice to get my LTFT's adjusted a bit so I could do some follow up logs on the drive tomorrow, I suppose they can wait.

Turning UAC off on windows worked, thanks again Lew. Got injector slope tuned now, just need to get some driving in again to get some follow up logs to confirm, then the fun begins with WOT logs.

When you get yourself logged and adjusted up correctly empty, your towing numbers will still be in line, speaking from experience.
