The data stream has stopped, waiting for engine to start

Post by jeffpc »

:(

Part# u7165 pcm_6_0
Version: v.1ro8a
2006 Ford E350 (Sportsmobile) 6L diesel

I purchased the Trinity turning programmer along with a EGT sensor from XtremeDiesel (XDP) just over 9 months ago. I've been have this on going problem with monitoring certain temperatures i.e. (ECT,EGT and EOT). During this time I'll have the programmer screen go blank and then read "The data stream has stopped, waiting for engine to start" "Halt Monioring". This will happy at any given time. Sometimes it will require me resetting the programmer and other times, it will come back on its own. Would very much appreciate your help in resloving this issue.

I've reattached the ground to the EGT sensor to ensure a proper ground and still experiencing the same problem. The problem seems to be more apparent just after I start the engine. It will cycle at lease 3 times with the reading "The data stream has stopped, waiting for engine to start" "Halt Monioring". Then it seems to be alright for the moment and then will hiccup with the message again after awhile. This has become quite frustrating.
Please advise,
Jeff

I recently dealt with this exact issue with another customer. I was sure it was related to the EGT wiring, he was not so sure...

I gave him some things to check, and he came back with this:

I did some trouble shooting of my own, and believe I have figured it out. It appears the power wire ran to the egt module has a bad connection. I used a test light, and have found if the power wire is moved around, via bumps on a road, it causes miss accurate readings. The chip doesn't turn off because it is powered by the obdII, only the egt doesn't have power.

When the EGT would shut down, he'd get halt monitoring...check it out.

I did checked the power from the fuse block to the EGT module with a volt meter and found it to be 12 plus volts. I also did a continuity check to ensure there wasn't any brake it the ground wire and everthing checked out. I found that the programmer will even have the same symptoms when the engine not running.

Mike,

The fact that the programmer would generate that same symptoms with the ignition system on and the engine not running, makes me believe that, more than likely the wiring/connector are alright. Please provide me with your thoughts

Mike,

I did some futher troubleshooting and found that by removing the analog input jack (EGT module) from the programmer, seems to keep programmer from displaying the message: (The data stream has stopped, waiting for engine to start). Does this mean there a problem with the EGT module? I would very much like to get your opinion on this matter before to long.

Thank you,
Jeff

I dont have a vehicle with an EGT setup to test this on, so its tough to try to reproduce.
I have monitored enough 6.0s with out an EGT to be able to say confidently that this issue would not be present without the egt, so I'll need to find a truck with an EGT to try to replicate the issue...

Mike,

Wouldn't it be easier to just send me a new EGT module, rather than waiting to find a vehicle? If it doen't work than, more than likely it's the programmer and I'll send the new EGT module back. I guess will go from there. What do think?

Thanks,

I dont think they will just ship you one on good faith, as much as I wish they could...FWIW, it is a PLX EGT box, might be a good idea to see if they have any input on the matter as well.

:?

So, your saying Diablosport doen't have EGT module that could be used to help a consumer trouble shoot one of your products?

what do you mean?

Im not saying that at all...what I am suggesting, is that based on the fact that nobody else is having this issue, maybe its a good idea to contact the manufacturer of the device to see if they have any further troubleshooting steps they can provide to attempt to resolve the issue.

Thanks

Mike,

I was under the impression that EGT module was a Diablosport product. Looking at your website, it comes accross as a Diablosport product, (Diablosport T1010-Diablosport Trinity EGT Modules). I would of thought Diablosport would support this, being it backed by Diablosport and carrys a 2 year warranty against defects in materials or workmanship. So that being sayed, rather then Diablosport offering anything else so I can help reslove this issue. Your going to wait until you can find a vehicle with an EGT setup to test this on, so you can try to reproduce issue?

Will you contact the manufacturer and see if than know of anybody else having this problem.

Thanks,
