Tune that is in car question
Hey all,
Just bought my first Challenger (2009) that happens to be modified and it came with a Predator. Car runs well and was tuned by a company with a dyno, and I would like to know if there is a possibility that the existing state of the tune could be different from the "last tune written" that I see in the Predator due to adjustments made by the former owner, tech, or whomever, and if it would be a good idea for me to upload the existing state of tune or program and parameters from the car into the Predator so as to keep an exact copy of the condition the car program and adjustments were in when I purchased it?
Thanks

RE: Tune that is in car question
I see in my instructions that some quick adjust parameters such as shift points and automatic upshift override etc can be modified without having to load a program into the car. And some of this may have been changed by the former owner.
This is why I came to the conclusion that I may need to copy the current program that is running the car.
Thanks.

RE: Tune that is in car question
the current tune on the car is already on the predator as is the orignal OE tune--- you can always set it back to stock and you will still have the custom tune on the predator
RE: Tune that is in car question
if you reflash the current tune to another the predator will ask you if you want to reset all parameters and if you want to keep them where they are at now just select "NO" and it will keep the parameters as they are in the new tune you want to flash on to the PCM

RE: Tune that is in car question
Ok I have 2 tunes in the predator...the stock tune and Joes tune which is the last tune written. So, if I want to change tire size and move the shift points up to 6400 from about 6200 (I see on the tach) in an 09 SRT8, along with bumping up the rev limit I need to do it on the predator and it will be saved into Joes tune...yes? Then I load it into the car. Yes?
Thanks
Thanks
RE: Tune that is in car question
yes you can plug the predator into your port select the tune you want to flash on to the PCM and TCM--- it will ask you if you want to reset the parameters select no, then before you install the tune select modify tune and do the adjustments you want to do with tire size and rev limit in the engine tune- and for shift points you will adjust that in the transmission tune once your done with all adjustment then install your tune and your done

RE: Tune that is in car question
Great thanks... I am starting to get a handle on this.....
Now...before I do any changing I see I need to update the preditor. It has a version V.9r13
To do this I need to load the stock production tune back into the car and I can be sure what is in the car now with any adjustments that have been made is already on my preditor listed as joes tune. That is good to know.
I saved the last tune written, joes tune, and the production tune to a folder in my PC.
Thanks

BACK THOSE TUNES UP!!! Once you return the car to stock the Predator will reset and you will lose the tunes on it. If you haven't backed them up onto your computer they're gone forever.

RE: Tune that is in car question
Ok I restored stock tune, updated Predator and loaded the performance tune that came with the car back into it, I had it saved to desktop.
I want to raise the shift points and I select the performance tune then modify tune and accept the disclaimer and it says not available for this engine/transmission combination. What gives with that? I updated the U7135 predator with 9r30.crom. Car is an 09 SRT8 automatic
Thanks

RE: Tune that is in car question
SRT8s already have raised shift points. Can't go any further. It'll hit the limiter and go into Limp Mode.

RE: Tune that is in car question
Thanks Mike but it won't allow me to do anything. I may put shorter tires on it.

RE: Tune that is in car question
It shifts at 6200 with the modern-muscle tune and jerseyboy advised me to bump it to 6400 after looking at my log and said it could be done with the Preditor as well as your instructions I have here, Below..
Somehow some way I would need to take the rev limit up as well. Your instructions say I can do that as well.
Thanks.
Shift Points:
This will enable you to raise the shift points by a set value.
5.7L 1-2 shift 5800rpm, 2-3 & 3-4 shifts at 6000rpm
6.1L SRT8 1-2, 2-3 & 3-4 shifts at 6400rpm

RE: Tune that is in car question
To be a little more specific, Here is a cut and paste of Diablos instructions I have to go by. Below. I get as far as selecting modify parameters when I get the message not available for this engine, transmission combination. So I cannot do anything.
Thanks
Modify Tune Procedures
1. When selecting the “Modify tuneâ€

RE: Tune that is in car question
I see a tag on the back of the Predator U7135 that says "2005-2008 LX &".......and thats it.
Maybe it is something to do with this particular unit is old. It did take the latest update ok.

RE: Tune that is in car question
Most of the problem is probably the fact that I haven't got a good handle on this yet . Thank you for your patience.
