2010 RAM 5.7L

Post by Venum29 »

Ok, so I have a 2010 RAM 1500 Quad Cab 4x4 Big Horn. I have an issue with my intune and noise. I have tried all the tunes and it never fails, when I punch the gas and it shifts it always makes and metallic flutter sound. Not sure if it is the valves going crazy, or what. I have never gotten any warning lights, but it sounds loud and it is very annoying. I do not want to damage my RAM, but I do love the added power and MPG it gives. If anyone that owns a RAM has the same kind of noise, please let me know. I would love to be able to adjust a parameter in order to stop this noise. When I run is stock, no tune, it does not do this. It only does this when I tune it with the intune. I would appreciate good advice on this matter. I know it is not the gas I use, nor is it because of the RAM itself. It only makes this noise after I tune it.

No, I have the MOPAR CAI it is not metal. The sound is weird. It is not KR, or anything like that. It really sounds like the valves are fluttering when it downshifts. Might that be what it really is? It has the MDS, maybe disabling the MDS might help, but not sure.

I have asked the question on the RAM forumZ. It only makes this noise while I run the intune, it does not make the sound when I have the original factory tune running. It has to be something to do with the intune and my RAM. I would really like some help with this, because I can not run it if it is going to make this sound. I have not had any warning lights come on thus far, but I am afraid it might do damage to the engine. Is there any chance it could cause damage? It runs very good otherwise and it has a lot more power. I am just not sure about the tuner and the noise the RAM makes when it down shifts when I put my foot into the gas peddel. If anyone has good solid information on this would really be helpful, thanks.

Has there been any conflicts with the intune tunes and the MDS on the RAM? Like is it not a good idea to run with the MDS on?

Ok, so I have been on the RAMforumZ and asking the question I did on here. So far there are two other RAM owners that have had the same issue as I am having. They just got rid of their inTune. Is that what I have to do? Is there some sort of fix?

wait...what issues exactly?

Are you telling me there are others complaining of a noise inthe engine after they load the tune?

I went to the RAM forumz and ask the question about the issue I am having. I had a few responses that told me they had the same noise. They got rid of it. The one guy said it is pinging and would damage the engine and that I should get rid of it. The noise I am hearing sounds a lot like what a diesels makes. My RAM does it when I jump on it and it shifts. At that point it makes the loud sound (diesel like). a rattle or something like it.

the truck has knock sensors, that pull timing before you could ever hear knock, thats not it.

Dont assume its knock, log it and see for sure ;)

I know it is not knock/KR
but it is something, trying to find out what and if it will HURT the engine.

Right. People like "The one guy" piss me off bad, because they have no idea what the fuck they're talking about. Like I've been telling people for years, if you HEAR the knock, the motors toast. You'll never hear it on late model vehicles. The knock sensors will pull timing long before then. Log the truck before making any assumptions.

I can log it, but would not know what to look for, anyways, lol. The noise is very loud and noticeable though. It sounds just like a diesel when it shifts, but only when I am WOT. normal driving it doe not make the noise.

I beta tested the inTune on my extensively modded 2010 Hemi Ram and NEVER had an issue like you describe. Actually any small issues I found were addressed and eliminated before the release to the public. Seeing as my truck gets more miles at the track than on the street, It would have blown up long ago if there were any problems with the inTune.

Don't listen to the bad crap from a few people who hear things. The are hundreds more users that have great things to say about it.

Some 2010s had broken exhaust manifold bolts that ended up sounding like lifters clattering. There could be loose heat shields on the manifolds causing the noise. You might want to check that issue out with a mechanic.

Remember even on a 87 tune, the inTune tweaks your truck to give you more power quicker.

Yes, but it only does it while I have the intune tuned to my RAM. If I run stock, OEM. I do not hear the rattle.
