2008 Avalanche Need Help ASAP!!

Post by Skittle_on_crack »

I've been using my Trinity on my 08 Avalanche with for the Fuel Economy Tune. I decided that I wanted to take my 2010 Camaro SS to the track tomorrow and backed up the factory tune to the Avalanche so I could use a Diablo Tune on the Camaro and retard timing for the spray. This wasn't easy. I had to hook and unhook the trinity about 30 times before it would fully boot, and even then it took 5mins to boot. It keeps cycling through the LEDs and then the backlight comes on and does nothing else. Nothing appears on the screen. Finally I got the cable in just the right spot for the thing to load.

I got in the truck to run to the parts store to get a few things and the Avalanche will not even turn the motor over. the VIC (Vehicle Information Center) keeps flashing Service Stabilitrak, Service Traction Control, and Parking Assist Off. I've been trying to get the Diablo to load for over an hour now and nothing is happening. It just keeps doing the same thing.

I need help. I need to get my truck running ASAP. Right now I'm stranded at home since the Camaro has a dead battery (reason I needed to go to parts store) and even if I swapped the batteries the Camaro has no tags, no insureance, and police have threatened to impound it since it's not street legal.

If I disconnect the battery for an hour or so then reconnect it will it reset the computer completely or just to the last tune written to it? Do I have any other options other than going and buying a new Trinity (which I can't afford right now).. Or am I going to have to get the thing towed to the dealership and end up having to pay them to re-flash it? (which i probably can't afford either right now)

Update: Diablo will now boot up but will not communicate with the ECU. It says to turn the key on but do not start the vehicle (which I can't anyways) and goes through a 5sec wait and then says unable to communicate.

I tried clearing trouble codes. Gives a code something like "U1000 Unknown" when I try to clear it comes up with something saying the PCM codes were erased but not the ECU codes.

Unless Lew can figure this out, you're stranded until Monday. Tech Support is closed on the weekends.

I'm wondering if maybe this is a bad connector cable that won't allow it to connect the the ECU.. Right now i have the battery disconnected. (well the positive disconnected. I can't reach the ground cable and it started raining.. will the ECU reset with the positive disconnected or does it have to be the negative?

Does anyone know where in the Central Arkansas area I could find a OBDII cable even if it's just to borrow for 5mins?

OK I've been reading through the forum some more and on page 5 or 6 I found a topic where JonDiablosport had placed a comment. It looks like the ECU "locked" or something. Looks like I'll be mailing my ECU on monday. Hopefully I can avoid the 5-0 for a few days while I have to drive the Camaro.

Oh and turns out it's not the obd2 cable that is causing the Trinity to not load. Now doing the samething with the USB cable. Have to plug the trinity in. wait 10mins or so. then press an arrow key and it the screen loads. Then if you unplug (for less than a few minutes) you can plug it back up and just press an over key. (bad capacitor maybe?)

Anyone know where to locate the ECU on a 2008 Avalanche 5.3? I only found the TCM..

I'm guessing (mostly due to the different model numbers) that I can't stick the ECU out of my 2010 Camaro SS in my avalanche in the mean time can I? (Thought maybe It could work since they use the same tune [car new body truck] but they probably have different connectors)

..n now that I think about it... is it sad when your 2-door stock long block car had 0.9L of displacement and 400ft-lbs on the truck you tow it with?
