06 Charger Octane

Post by MotoAce51 »

I have been using the CAI tune on my 06 Charger RT. I had decent results (except for the Transmission Mode 2 and Mode 2). Anyways, the cost of gas is high, and we are getting closer to winter so I tried to switch to a 87 octane tune. I plugged it in and there was no 87 tune. There is stock, 91, 91 CAI, Diablo, CAI, & Improved Gas Mileage (or whatever its called).

First, I used the Gas Mileage tune. I don't really notice a performance decrease. Besides the firmer shifts I notice no difference. Is this normal?

Second, I noticed my mileage has actually decreased. This could be due to a different commute but I wanted to make a note of it.

Third; what is the best tune for 87 octane? I just want to run the lesser performance tune through the winter if it will save money and increase mileage. I wont really do any spirited driving in the winter due to conditions so it shouldn't matter.

What is my best recommended setting for saving money and improving gas mileage?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For the winter, a lot of people remove the tune. With the tune installed, theres no Torque Management, so the traction control and ESP is virtually useless.

For me the mpg booster tune has more pull especially on the low end than the other tunes such as the 91. Not sure why because i do not have any major knock issues as suggested. I also notice that with all of the canned tunes that my car is more reluctant to engage and hold MDS which could explain your mpg decrease. Finally i drive in the snow and the stock tune is by far the best when it comes to traction control.

Full stock tune or set the Intune to Modified Stock?

Either should work. I'm not sure if the modified one removed the torque management. I don't think so.
