2012 Challenger 91 Octane Tune in California

Post by GSXRJ »

I'm seeing a performance loss with this tune. I set up logging and I'm seeing spark knock causing the timing to retard. 91 octane is the best we can get here. Anyone else experiencing this? Only mod is a K&N CAI.

Since better fuel is not an option what can be done to get around this? For now I'm going back to the stock tune, removing MDS and setting trans to firmer shift.

Thanks,
J

My car is a Challenger srt8 392. I was getting ping while My car was stock after the switch to winter blend gas here in WA . Now that I can data log I see that from 3k to5k I am getting .5% short term knock retard. We have 92 octane here I have tried octane boosters but no help. I am going to try tuning in more fuel in the 3-5k range and data log again.

I have a 2011 Challenger r/t 5.7 with a k&N CAI and Magnaflow exhaust kit and I know this isn't the best way to tell, however I went to the virtual drag tree and did both a 0-60 and 1/4 mile time on orignal stock twice and diablos 91 oct tune twice and seen only .5-.6 sec. faster in the 0-60 and a gain of 1.1-1.2 sec. faster in the 1/4 mile with a gain of 5-6 mph faster in the 1/4 mile, I don't have a dyno available at this time and i was wondering if anyone has real figures to show improvments over there stock tune compared to the 91/93 oct tune

ONLY .5-.6 quicker to 60? You do realize that .1 is equal to about 10hp, right? Where else are you gonna get those kinds of reductions without forced induction?

well, I guess i didn't realize that but that is why I am curious as to what other people have seen as far as having numbers to put down on paper, although it was consistantly between those numbers on both tests I would like to take it to do a dyno so that i have real numbers to put next to it, just curious as to what others have come up with

We will be doing lots of testing tonight here in Dallas. 2011 Charger R/T 5.7 3.06 gears. Last night in 1/8 mile was a bust as we didnot cool the car down before running it. Times were the same stock vs tune. We did both 91 and 93.

Tonight we be 1/4 mile runs with data logging. Post results this weekend.

Didn't notice a big difference with the 91 tune and I run real gas. I will make a better comparison when the drag strip opens this spring. It was awesome to be able to turn off the mds finally and I also firmed up the shifts. I have a 2012 challenger rt and my best time so far has been 13.96 at 102 shifting the car using the paddle shifters and I felt that time could have been just a little better if I hadn't waited too long on one shift and had the car shift for me. It hooked up real good off the line though on that run.

I might mention that run was with my car stock except for a k&n air filter and magnaflow a with the resonators removed and on 89 octane real gas
