Installed tune on 2012 srt8, car is slower help!!!

Post by SRTGR8T »

Just installed 93 tune on 2012 Chrysler srt8, my car is equipped with an 87mm ported throttle body and a LMI true cold air intake (fender mounted) , after the tune was installed I ran some 0 to 60 times and quArter mile time and it seemed slower, any tips?

Log it. Its most likely knocking like crazy. You're gonna have to add fuel to make up for the increased air flow.

What do you mean log it? I had the tool showing what I thought were the knock sensors and I didn't see it move off 0, is this what you mean, new to the tools

Ok I logged about a 10 minute ride (hard) now what should I be looking at to figure out how to troubleshoot the lack of performance once ugged in, funny thing is the car seems stronger but the numbers are slower

You need to record a log. There are 3 different knock sensor readings. ST KR, LT KR and KR Fuel. ST and LT are the important ones. You should be able to open up a DCX dashboard with all the needed parameters already set up.

Ok I have a log of a run I just did, here's a list of what was recorded
MAP - BARO - P-RAT MAP BARO - DESIRED FA CYL1 - acc pdl pos - thr pos % - thr blade -
Thr pos v - delthr - maf - injector pulse width cylinder 1 - injector pulse width cylinder 2 - ect - in man air temp - 1/1 long term adap - 2/1 long term adap - 1/1 short term adap - 2/1 short term adap - base spark - knk st retard - spk adv 1 - knk lt retard -

I am assuming you need the knk st and knk lt, how do I read these I notice movement in the gauge about every 10 seconds

Ok, the knk st was at 4.00 I increased the gas to 2% rich on all 3 parameters and also up the throttle boost to 20% the car is definite faster by about .2 in the 0-60 and 1/4 mile but the knk st is at 6.5 now and knk lt is at 2.5 and before the modifications to the tune it was at 0, what do you think I should do now?

Okay, if the KR went up when you added gas then the gas is the problem. For now you can pull a degree or two of timing in the rpm range where its knocking. Next fill up try either another brand of gas or even just another station. Its possible that the station you used watered down the gas or didn't add the correct additive package.

How do I tell which rpm range it's knocking at? Do I just watch the log and when I see the jump in the knk then just see where the rpm range is?

Ok, let me start by saying thanks for all your help mike, now and in the future, I swear I would think you worked for diablo sport, they should hire you as there forum guy. Now, back to my situation, after my first log my fuel ranges were all set at 2% richer, after I had 7.0 knk st, I watched the log and had some knks at lower rpm, much more at middle range, and about the same at high range, so I moved the low range to 3.5 richer, the middle at 6.0 richer and the high at 5.5 richer, did another 10 minute hard ride log, down to 5.0 on knk st 1.5 on knk lt and 5.0 on knk fuel, majority of the knks are between 3500 rpm and 4500 rpm very little in the low range and about half as many in the high range, but I did notice at about 6100 rpm I had a 5.0 on the knk st and knk fuel, how much do you think I should adjust the fuel from this point, also I'm running 20% throttle boost, I don't really notice anything, should I, I have an 87mm ported throttle body should I even be adjusting this?

Thanks. I probably would work for them if I lived in South Florida.

Pull 2 degrees of timing in the midrange and 1 degree on the top end. Leave the fuel where it is for now.

Ok, stupid question, but how do I do that? And when you say pull the timing do you mean move it back or move it forward?

There should be adjustments in the Modify Tune menu for Spark and MBT Spark. Need to move both of them to -2/-1. Both regular Spark and MBT need to be adjusted the same amount or the adjustment won't take.
