Race Fuel at track with 93 Tune?

Post by coair73x »

Plan to run car here in Dallas tonight in the 1/4 mile in low 70 degree weather. I never have put the 100 octane or what ever is avail at the track in a new car to help combate knock. Is this a bad idea? Should it be avoided? We ran the car last night with 93 and still had some knock readouts with stock vs 91 vs 93 tune around the shift points 5200 thru 5500. I think I am reading this right.

Data logging showed KNK Fuel Retard 0.00 to 3.00 and KNK ST 0.00 to 3.00 on most runs. I don`t know if I am reading into this to much and this is normal?

Does anyone have a good PID layout you should look at when running 1/4 Mile?

I was planning on all KNK PIDS all Intake temp PIDS IN MAN AIR TEMP ECT AIR CHARGE ENG RPM and Spark Advance. I was also planning on hooking it to the laptop for more detailed info.

If race gas will help I might spring for it. But just curious if I am wasting my cash and time.

Do it. It will definitely help, especially on a knock prone Hemi.

one question though??? Is the race fuel unleaded??? Will it hurt a stock car with CATS? For now we just have a drop in K&N and the Trinity Tuner with the canned tunes. We have a CAI Frankentake but did not see any gains from it yet. Going to concentrate on the Stock Airbox for now and mess with adding fuel % at WOT if needed.

Gotta ask that at the track. They probably have leaded and unleaded. Anything under 110 octane is most likely unleaded, if they use Sunoco Race Fuels, like most tracks do.

If you are using VP Race fuel you need VP 109 which is unleaded.

Since it was just a test and tune night there was no race fuel available.

We just kept it on the 91 tune and was happy with the results.

Going to wait till CMR tuning is ready then go from there running 93.
