Question about modifying can tune

Post by Jlope014 »

Hey guys at Diablosport,
I have the predator for my '02 mustang 3.8 (yes it's a 6'er, leave me alone). I got it with the canned tunes and have been using the 93 octane tune consistently. Since I got this thing, I have added long tube headers, a k&n intake, and true dual exhaust with high flow cats (and a bunch of other non-related crap). I am flowing a good deal more air now versus stock, so I am wondering if it is safe to modify my tune by adding spark or fuel, and which if either I should change. I plan on getting a dyno tune eventually, but am just wondering if I can safely modify the canned one for the time being. I asked this once before (a long time ago) and was told I should never change the canned tunes, but my personal mechanic told me that with the amount of air I have added I should be adding more fuel. Would I need bigger fuel injectors, or is this safe at all?

ideally you should never blindly add timing or remove fuel without knowing what the current AFR is and without monitoring spark for peak power and any signs of detonation.
