P0171 and P0174 with jlt tune

Post by Idobson »

Hi I have a 2005 mustang. Completely stock, yesterday I added a jlt stage 3 cai and uploaded the 91 octane tune for jlt.
I did let my intune update over the Internet for about an hour first :)

Since I have 87 octane gas I changed the global spark to -4 to compensate, the car seems to have a bit of a flat spot right off idle. Then after I got where I was going I started it up and check engine light was on, the intune showed the codes above.

Any helo please :)

Its running lean. You have an air leak someplace.

I did consider that as a posibillity before I posted the message so I did do a visual inspection, it can only be the CAI since thats the only thing that I touched so it's either one of the 2 hose clamps at the throttle body, the vacuum hose underneath or a leak at the mass air sensor?

I visually checked them all, I guess I'll spray them with carb cleaner or something with it stops raining outside,

I did fill the car up with 91 and just reloaded the jlt tune back in and it did it again, took a while though about 15 minutes driving in city traffic before it showed up again.

The JLT series 3 is different from the standard JLT that is loaded into the tuner. You can either use the adjustable options in the tuner to increase the values in the MAF or get a custom tune to dial it in.

So they sell a package with the intake and tuner, yet the tune in the tuner doesn't work with the intake? Thats real bright.

+1.

Also, any time you pull 4* of spark, you run the risk if dead spots, 87 + a CAI does not always add up to me....you add the CAI for more power, yet you limit the power potential by running junk fuel....?

When I installed the JLT I had a full tank of 87 so i couldn't really run the jlt tune for 91 which is why i dialed it down a bit, I now have 91 as I said in my previous post and i just reloaded the stock JLT tune and I still have the same issues.

If I'd known that the JLT tune wouldn't work with the intune the I probably would have bought one that would.! this kinda sucks as to why the #1 intake from JLT isn't in the tuner but some crappy other JLT that no one has ever heard of or bought is.

Awesome.

What does the intune tuner that comes from JLT with their kit have in it for a tune?

its not some crappy intake my friend, its based on the JLT intake that they provided us for testing when we developed the tunes.

This is not a big deal, if you need a fix right now, post the backup from the intune and we'll make you a new file for the newer JLT.

Thanks

Well this is the response I got back from JLT today, so they seem to think you have one :)

"Diablo should have a tune for the series 3, you need to talk to them.
We sent them one last year for them to use. Make sure you have the correct JLT tune in your car.
Thank you,"

Anyway I've uploaded the stuff from my intune there were 2 files so I just uploaded both.

Thank you for your help..

Thanks, that seemed to do the trick.. :)
One more question, it had a -4 in global spark, does that mean i never took it out?

yes, that means it is still pulling 4* from the new tune.
