2012 Ram, Knock on 91 Tune

Are you running a log or just watching the meter? If your just watching the meter make sure that your running the one that catches the low/highest number because when it knocks it is really quick and you wont see it on the meter unless it catches it. Mine constantly says 0 also but when I do a log it shows that it maxes at 3.

yeah unfortunately there are no tuners even close to me, at least not within 400 miles. You've been very helpful so I I'm interested to know more about your tuning.

I specialize in Ram trans tuning, and do engine tuning also.

good custom shift schedule and some other stuff is a big improvement, IMO.

I would say that's my biggest gripe with the truck is the shifting. As I understand it, the canned tunes don't touch transmission tuning, is that correct?

canned tunes do have some trans adjustment.

you can adjust 1-2, 2-1 & 2-3, 3-2 in "Drive" in Modify Tune with your tuner.

I can write you a tune with custom shifts in ALL 5 gears in BOTH Drive and Tow/haul. can also do stuff to the line pressure, shift firmness, and converter.

One thing I've noticed about the knocking is it seems to be the worst when driving the truck without letting it warm up. I got 8.5 after starting and driving this morning, once it warmed up, it was down to 1.5-2. I've reduced spark a few weeks ago 2* in all ranges and added 2%, 3%, and 3% respectively. I assume the spark when colder is what I should be focusing on reducing. I feel like any gains the tune added I'm taking away to reduce knock..

I hope you are not going WOT when cold.

if you are getting ST knock during warm-up while doing normal part throttle driving, you won't be able to adjust that with your tuner.

tuner only adjusts WOT spark, not part throttle. they are separate tables in the tune.

I most definitely try not to gun it without the truck being warmed up, can't say I've never done it but I understand its not good for the engine. I'm about ready for a custom tune, I'm tired of trying to eliminate the knock. I've both reduced spark and increased fuel and neither seem to make much of a difference running 93/10 octane with the 91 tune. Maybe restoring the stock tune and disconnecting the battery for a while to reset the computer, then reapplying will help?

restore stock tune, disconnect battery, then re-load tune is worth a try.

if that doesn't get rid of ST knock at part throttle, you may need custom spark.

if you tune to stock, log the stock tune with cold engine, see what ST knock does with stock tune.

catch can may help.

Bottom line; get a catch can!! I was having the same problems with my Jeep SRT8. I was seeing varying degrees of knock at part throttle and WOT. It was happening on stock tune and 91 & 93 tunes. Jeep only had 11,000 miles on it. Finally got catch can and SeaFoamed the intake manifold. All I can say is Holy Crap; there was a ton of oil in the manifold. Jeep smoked for over 15 minutes. Also check spark plugs; they were heavily corroded. We cleaned and gapped them properly. Now-no problem with knock. I may get as high as 1 to 1.5 st which is normal.

1-1.5 at WOT is about all I am seeing, too. 2012 Challenger SRT8, Mopar CAI, Mopar exhaust, +5% fuel at WOT. I was getting the same with the factory tune.

x2 on cleaning the intake manifold.

catch can won't stop knock if there's already a bunch of oil in the intake and you don't clean it.
