180 T-Stat and Trinity G version review

Post by Bullish »

First I want to say I know I had been a little negative about the trinity during all it's hiccups. I stopped downloading them a while ago. Well today after seeing and reading that all the major issues are history now. I downloaded the G version. It was a very very very easy download and very easy to install . After install the car ran with no problem.. I was able to adjust the G version tune with no problem whats so ever.

I installed the 93 Oct Tune, adjusted the throttle boost to 20% , Raised Shifts pts, raised Rev level, and being that I installed a 180- T-Stat today as well. I adjusted / lowered ALL fan settings 20 degrees.. Fan goes on anywhere between 178 -188 degrees depending on driving conditions compare to 198-208. I drove around today for about 2.5 hrs.. This car is a BEAST.. You really feel the difference at WOT.

Today its a BEAUTIFUL 71 degrees here in North Fl. Prior to installing 180-Tstat engine temps was running between 195 to 215 depending on driving conditions. After installing 180-Tstat and adjusting fans here's how my engine was running today ..

Idle and stop and go traffic 185-187 degrees
Cruising 70 mph 182-185 degrees
Driving at 90-100 mph 188-190 degrees
Driving at 120 mph 195-200 degrees

Fans kicked on at the actual temps I set.. Have to get use to the fans being on most of the time.. However that is a small price to pay for a cooler engine.

Just curious.

What kind of ST and LT knock are you seeing with the canned tunes? I didnt have the canned tunes on too long before getting a custom tune so I only have limited info on what is 'normal'.

Not saying this happens on all trucks, but my ST knock increased with the canned 93 tune.

Create a monitoring log. Under the "misfire" option you will see the options, ST Knock Retard and LT Knock Retard. Monitor those with the gauge that keeps the min/max recording. (you have to set up the layout in the logging section)

If your not already monitoring your engines vitals it might be a good idea :D

I keep my trinity set to monitor coolant temps since I have the 180 tstat and a list of others like ambient temp vs intake manifold temps.

I created two Gauges that allow me to read the min and max reading...
cruising at 40 and flooring about 3 times where it jumped 40 to 85 plus
Here is my Reading.. LT ZERO and the ST went as high as 4.50
93 Tune.

Now I heard that the following
MDS maybe effect on the results. I did not turn off the MDS but I used the shifter which turns off the MDS.
Heard 5 and below was ok, However I should consider adding 5% to WOT or switching to 91 Tune.
Should i run it stock to see what kind of reading I get?

This weekend I will play around with it some more.,
Its kind of Hard to try it out and floor it during rush hour traffic lol..

Thats good for a canned tune.

I was seeing 5 and 6 stock, when I used the canned tune it jumped to 7. Now I have a custom tune that rarely gets over 3.
