Question on Torque Managment setting

I have a 4.8 2010 silverado 4 speed trans, i keep hearing people say turn torque management off for better performance. First off what is torque management and if i turn it down all the way to -20 for all my shifts will i hurt anything?

You can't turn it off on the four speed adjust it a little at a time till u get the feel u are happy with
