2000 Camaro Running rich

I recently started tuning my 2000 Camaro and need help adjusting the vehicle so it doesn't run rich. This vehicle runs so rich people parked in vehicles six feet away smell my car. I have done some data logging but before I change anything I would like to know what needs to be adjusted. All help is appreciated.

First, you need a log with similar parameters but a steady 1800-2000 rpm.

next, was the car warmed up.... either you have not warmed it up to operating temp or you have too low or an open thermostat it did not even hit 180*

Thank you for the reply I will do more logging in a minute but I will tell you this much I get about 10mpg right now city so I can't go very far. How do I close the thermostat to lower it? My temp gauge never goes above 200 when I do a long trip I believe I need to replace the thermostat at this point. Also I'm on a mac and can't view the playback on my computer yet.

Remember it takes 50-100 miles for a tune /adjustment to settle in, be learned by the comp. Yes I noticed that your temp never even reached 180* your computer is keeping you in open loop fueling. What modifications do you have done to the car?

other than a cam, I don't know for sure. I'm the fourth owner of my SS. I know the idle was set at 900 rpm and the car would auto accelerate to 30mph pretty much. I couldn't tell you the full extent of the computer modifications but I do know that when I lowered the RPM it wasn't matching my tachometer. I see 600rpm on the dash but the tuner states 900+rpm. This is when I was idling and the computer was reading my engine speed. Any suggestions about that? Also for the fuel loop I have no idea how to fix that one yet.

Well the rpm you see with the tuner is what the computer sees, so go by that. I would replace the thermostat with at least a 180* one or even better an original GM for 188* this will get your engine to warm up correctly and get you into closed loop which is needed to do any tuning. The 900 rpm may be just due to your engine thinks its cold, once you get that corrected things will change. Rpm will possibly drop to 750rpmand gas mileage will increase a lot.

for the data logging, the parameters you need to log are already pre-selected when you go into the logging function on the intune... so you'd just need to go to logging, then start recording, stop recording, save the log...

so... make sure the vehicle is fully up to normal operating temps before logging, and you want to do the log during the warm part of the day - not at night or early morning... then you want to get on the highway, and drive steady keeping your rpms between 1800-2400 as much as you can... if you have a 6 speed tranny you can do it in 5th gear so you don't have to go 90mph hahaha... record the log for about 5-10 minutes, then you can stop the recording and save the log.

then when you connect the intune to your PC, there will also be a LOGS folder in that intune usb drive... so you'd copy the log file from that logs folder to your harddrive.... then open it up in the DataViewer app... then go to File - Export to CSV and save it as a .csv file to your pc...

then open the csv file in DSLogRedux (www.dslogredux.com) to analyze it, or open it in MS Excel to go through it manually and see what your average LTFT's are reading, and then make the necessary adjustments...

Okay guys,
I appreciate the replies and the support of the forum so far. I have a list of problems related to the vehicle running rich. I had a bad CPS (Camshaft Position Sensor) this was causing a cylinder to miss fire. This did solve some of the problem. Did more data logging and found no new results before the sensor was replaced. I will get a data log for comparison to the old sensor. Again thanks for the help Ill_Born_SS, 06MonteSS.

I used the DSLogRedux and keep getting an error message saying that I need to log the Equivalence Ratio. I haven't deleted any logging parameters so how can I add this for logging? All help is appreciated.

it's not an errror... read the message... just says it won't give you any WOT info because you didn't log the AFR...

you will not have the AFR parameter available to log on that old car, so don't worry about that...

just click through the message and dslogredux will still work for you for the long term fuel trim stuff and recommend the injector slope adjustment, which is what you need to do at this point anyway...
