Will changing my throttle body affect my CMR tune?

Will changing my throttle body affect my CMR tune?
I am wanting to get a different throttle body for my Ram. My question is will I need a new tune or will it affect my CMR tune if I go to a larger diameter? I dont want to pay for another dyno day unless im doing a bigger mod. I was thinking about the BBK 85. Ive heard about some people throwing codes after changing theirs. Also if I am to reset my PCM and APPS will that affect my tune?

Don't bother. Waste of money, no gains. I tested a stock, ported stock, 85 and 90mm on my heads/cam 6.1 and there were no gains across the board. Actually there was a power loss with the 90. The stock TB flows more than enough air for a naturally aspirated motor up to 426ci at 7000rpm. You'll get a throttle response increase at first due to the leaner mixture, the computer will learn it and then even thats gone.

Ok thanks. I just decided to take mine stock one off and clean it. It was pretty dirty. How about resetting the PCM? I remember reading somewhere that it wont erase the programmed tune but I want be make sure before I go ahead and do that.

It won't erase the tune, but it will reset the adaptives. That alone could increase your response. If you drive it hard while its learning, it will learn more aggressive curves, which will help your performance........ at least until it relearns if you drive easily.

I would have to disagree here. Do some research on some forums and see what everyone is saying about adding either an 85mm or 87mm ported throttle body from Moe's to their 5.7 Hemi. I've not seen one person unsatisfied with the results, especially when combined with a CAI.

Thats why I don't go to the forums. I don't care what people think. The dyno doesn't lie. Peoples asses do.

What other mods are you planning on? I would say if you add a throttle body, it would definitely be worth sending a log to your CMR to at least look at it. If there's no changes necessary it shouldn't cost you anything, and if it needs tweaking you might get it for less than an initial custom tune.RamMan86 wrote:I am wanting to get a different throttle body for my Ram. Larger throttle bodies do free up a couple HP, but depends on alot too. If you have a full bolt on 5.7L Hemi for example (CAI, long tubes, full exhaust, 180 tstat, clutch fan delete, Oil catch can, 3000 stall converter, 6.1 or 6.4 intake manifold, nitrous?) a Trinity and some custom tuning by a tuner who is going to want your data logs in order to dial in your tune properly, the 87 mm Moe's Throttle body will probably be your best bet. Although if your planning on just simple mods like ( CAI, exhaust, Trinity) then I'd go with the 85mm TB. The larger TB will have better gains with a more heavily modded engine from what I understandgreasegizzard wrote:What other mods are you planning on?
