Dodge Powerpuck Problems

Post by 99Dakota »

Hey my buddy has an 04 Cummins Ram 2500 Its got the 235hp Cummins. Anyways, we put the powerpuck in and hooked up everything correctly etc. We fired it up, seemed to idle ok, put it on 50hp mode, it won't even spin the tires in the snow, it just died and cuts out etc. 90hp mode, it does the samething except worse. While driving in 90hp mode the truck surges back and forth cuts out etc in O/D As soon as the rpms reach 2100 the truck cures itsself and takes off like a bat outta hell. in 50hp mode, samething, no power down low, won't spin tires from a stop, but doesn't noticably skip while underload, but you can feel that its kinda rough, hit 2100rpm, the truck goes nuts. We tried reconnecting everything, same resaults, we tried disconnecting both batterys to hopefully see if that would help, samething. For a while even in N it would cut out and skip eratically but it went away. All problems go away and the truck acts normal once u flick the switch back to Stock mode.

What gives here?? the truck is throwing no codes. Help ASAP.

99Dakota,

Can you get me the 4 digit CPL number off of the valve cover please? Also, what part number Puck did you receive?

since it isn't my truck i don't have much access too it. but i do know its the D7157 puck. We think it needs the D7156 for an 03 cummins because pretty much all hes ever bought for his truck hes had to look under an 03 ram. his manfacture date says 10/03.

You can tell the year by looking at the 10th digit of the VIN. It may very well be an 03 in which case you are right, you have the wrong part number.

The 10th digit is a 4. But the date of manufacture is 10/03. We've ran into problems just buying stock parts for this truck, we usually gotta buy 03 parts. The current puck we have now is the D7157, for an 04-04.5. We were doing research on these forums last night and are thinking about maybe trying the D7159 for the 05 since other have had it work. But im reaally thinking the D7156 is the answer. What do u think christina, we need to get this working and back on the road better then ever! 8)

The puck for an 02 does not have the switch.
The MAP sensor should be out in the open.

Hi,
I just installed a D7157 on my 2004 Dodge, it works fine for the most part, but when in 50hp mode it surges unless you're on the throttle. Any idea what's causing this?
Thanks! :D
