MAF parameter

Post by bprovence »

Could you explain the MAF adjustment. The MAF sensor measures the volume of air going into the engine so what is the need of the adjustable perameter and what does it change? Does it change the air/fuel ratio?
Thanks for your help. (2006 f150 5.4L)

the adjustment is there is you need to increase or decrease the curve to tell the pcm you have increased airflow.

Thanks for your response but I still don't completly understand. If the MAF sensor is measuring the volume of air going into the engine, doesn't it already acount for the increased air flow? Sorry for the continued questions, and thanks for your help.

No it does not because it's a calibrated static value within the PCM and it needs to be adjusted for increased airflow or any adjustment to the air mass from stock.

I think I'm with you. The voltage signal from the MAF idicates a specific volume as it relates to the stock intake/induction system so a change to the intake system could generate the same voltage signal even though the air volume is increased.Increasing this increases the fuel delivery to match it?

Is "global timing" the base timing?

I will be pulling a 6000lb trailer this summer, is the premium tune ok to run when towing? No issues with too much timing or running lean?

Thanks again, you have been very helpfull.

Yes that is exactly correct.

The global timing effects everything timing wise so to pull timing it's the best way.

Pull 2-3degrees that's pretty heavy for it.

Sorry you lost me again. Is global timing not simply the reference point from which the timing curves start?

Are you saying remove 2-3 degrees of timing when towing the boat and running the premium tune?

global timing is a value that is added to or subtracted from the final spark calculation.

If everything (spark tables/modifiers/knock) decides to be at say, 15*, and you have global spark set to +2, it will be 17*, this applies to any and all spark calculations.

Thanks I'm with you on the timing now. I think sohfast94 was saying set global timing to -2 or -3 when towing witn the premium tune. (6000lb boat/trailer) Is that what he meant in his previous post???
