custom tune

Post by hairytool »

Hey, Mike thanks for the quick turn around on the tune. I just have a few questions I hope you can help with.

First: When I downloaded the file to my truck I went directly to modify custom tune and entered my tire sizes and preferences , then chose install modified tune. Did I actually install the custom tune by doing it this way or should I have installed the custome tune first then come back and modify it?

Second: Assuming I did install it correctly, I noticed the spark timing had been retarded several degrees(same spark reading as OEM & 87 tune). I am running 93. Is this part of the LT & ORY changes or did I get an 87 or modified factory tune?

Thanks again :D

you need to import the custom tune into your predator first... then, you can choose modify tune, make your changes, and then install the custom tune.

you don't have to install the custom tune first before you modify it.

Not sure about the spark.
Monitor KR to be sure there is none present.

Thanks

Yep, I did it just like that, monte. Thanks, I just wanted to be sure.

No , I don't have any KR. I had KR for awhile before getting the custom tune but I had found it to be fouled plugs and not the diablo tune.

I noticed that the spark degrees fluctuates between 16-20, which is the factory(OEM/87) spark, at idle. The orig 93 predetor tune ran @ 19-23 spark @ idle. I'm just curious if I am running a custom 93 tune which has a few degrees more spark or a custom OEM/87 tune which has the same spark I'm running at now(16-20).

Spark at idle is affected by like 20 different things.
You only need to be concerned with spark at WOT...

Mike, I drove for a while and let my LTFTs relearn @ -5%. I saved the custom tune on my PC and reinstalled the 93 tune on my truck to check the spark table(reading rather) and ran it to it settled down in the LTFTs. Then reloaded and installed the custom tune again. The base timing is definately an average of -2degs less across the RPM band with a lack of off-idle and low rpm response in the custom tune. It definately rocks on the mid-high end and passing down-shfts. Is there any way to modify the custom tune to add 1-2degs spark back into it since I can only adjust WOT spark advance. If I can get the initial timing back where it was; I can pull -2degs out of WOT if thats what this tune requires. I know the LTs don't help the low end any but the timing advance should lower my power band abit to aid in PT commuting and towing, which is 85% of my driving. Also I'm getting a mil light now with P2a01 & P2a04 codes. The predator tells me these are unknown codes. Any Idea what they mean?

P.S. I appriciate your help Mike. You have exceeded my expectations with your superb customer support!

How bout it Mike, can you or Johan help me? The P2A01 & P2A04 reaccuring codes is starting to bug me. I've been reading other forums like PT.net and realized others(with 05' GM trucks) have deleted the rear o2s and have the same problem despite the different tuning software(s) being used. One post did say that these two codes are in an ignore list in HP tuners. Does yall CMR software have the ability to disable or ignore these codes?

This is odd....not sure what those codes are.
You do have the rear O2 plugged in, correct?
Send me back the custom tune and I'll have a look at it, and see if we can get a bit of timing in down low...

Thanks

yea its odd from what I've been reading. Its rear O2 related. Something to do with an intrusion test performed by the PCM on the rear o2s. Seems to be an issue with 05, trucks possibly a program update from GM.

Yes they are still plugged in, but they are just tie wrapped under the truck since the pace setter ORY does not have rear o2 bongs.

Thanks I will email the tune to you tonight after i get off of work.

Ahhah...I would bet the codes will go away if you added some bungs to plug them in, since they are not getting heated by the exhaust now.

Thanks
