Naturally aspirated motors can only move a certain amount of air, and a certain amount of fuel. With small displacement and only 4 cylinders, that amount is comparatively very small. So even with more timing like you get from a tune, its still a very small amount of air/fuel thats in the cylinders to combust. Without increasing that, either with more displacement, bigger cams, better heads, more rpms or forced induction, your power gains are small. Thats why a Honda may make 7-10hp from a header, while a domestic V8 could make 35-40 or even more from a set. More displacement, bigger bang, more power gained. Also why it takes me 22psi of boost in my 4.4L X5 to make the same 640hp my 6.2L CTS-V made with 13psi.

The civic is a huge seller, The sporty coupe always sells great as well, Honda has a huge history in racing, Honda owners have been modding their cars since the days of the CRX, There is a great market for Diablo within Honda's network of owners. I ran the Diablo Delta on my 94 mustang, The preditor on f150, With awesome results.mikel wrote:hang on there....civic might be one of the largest markets in the world...but, its not the direction we have been looking for sure.06MonteSS wrote:and there is not enough of a market/interest for it to justify the cost either...
Never know though, if something were to fall into our lap it might make sense to do something here.
As stated already, We have a turbo kit for our 1.8 R18 engine, We also have a Jackson Racing Supercharger that has been produced for our engine, That is all good for those who want to pay for and run forced induction.
I myself don't desire forced induction, But rather a cai, exhaust and throttle body, Coupled with a Diablo tuner. Diablo has brought many smiles to my face in my other two rides as above, I hope i can get a Diablo product for my Civic coupe 5spd mt

I understand were your comeing from but you gotta remeber we only have 140 hp at the crank you add 7 hp you will feel it in this car you add a bunch of bolt ons plus a tune the car will be smother running with tune and also know how to use these bolt on better. Me personaly along with some of the other guys said was that we need a tune to even make a sc or a turbo even work on our r18 being that hondata or anyone made a tune for us you guys can be the only guys with a tune for r 18 makeing bank. We got more people that realy want a tune solution if we prove to you guys that there is a market for r18 honda civic would you concider makeing a tune for us?
Re: 2012 honda civic r18
Jackson racing supercharger kits will make r18 a lot faster Si. I think it's a little more than 200HP. If we calculate the car weight ratio between Si and R18, we only need 175 HP to beat Si on the track.

I see, Are you a programer for the tuner or?Mike_Levy wrote:Naturally aspirated motors can only move a certain amount of air, and a certain amount of fuel. I think there has to be a tune for the 1.8 R18, Honda makes a civic si, That makes 201 HP, That with no forced induction, Simply a sport tuned 2.0L I4, As compared to mine, A 1.8L at 140HP, No sport tuning though. Without the tune, The 2.0 SI model wouldn't make 201HP. Remember, Honda has vtec as well.
So i figure we get a tune, And gain some HP and torque.
Re: 2012 honda civic r18
We can attain 175HP, With a tune, cai and exhaust, maybe a throttle body upgrade, That should put us in the 175 to 180 range. Diablo can make it happen, They made my mustang mean, My F150 was freakin wicked with the Diablo, I understand the 4cyl twist, But we wont need internals to get 175HP, or pay 4K for a jackson racing supercharger, Diablo has what we need to put a big smile on our faces. Excellent product and excellent programersRobSBP wrote:Jackson racing supercharger kits will make r18 a lot faster Si. I think it's a little more than 200HP. Sign me up! I'm not looking to go FI either but if I can get 20 - 30 more horsepower with a tune and some bolt ons I'm down! Not looking to build a racecar but these cars are light and 30 hp would make a significant improvement.

OK. I'm get more people over heremikel wrote:alotRobSBP wrote:Alright. How many definite buyers you need to get your attention? We got so many people traded there r18 civic for an Si just because there is no tuning solution.
get them over here

I'm down!
there are quite a few of us from 9thcivic interested in F/I and without tuning solutions we're pretty stuck. I know there are people serious about this, we had a list going of 15 members.. which would mean there are others out there not on the forums. The only way for serious gains is through f/i and most of us already have the bolt-ons. I'm sure if you develop the only tuning solution available, people would be all over that!

I'm just your every day car modder (been doing it 19 years), with an auto mechanics background. The Si makes more power than the 1.8 for several reasons. First, more displacement (more air and fuel in the cylinders). Second, bigger cams (open the valves longer and wider, again, for more air and fuel in the cylinders). Third, more rpms (more air and fuel in the cylinders, more times per minute). 3 of the things I mentioned that you need to make power. Not sure, but I'd guess they also have higher flowing heads and manifolds, and probably higher compression too. I'd seriously doubt that much of their extra power over your 1.8 is due to the tuning. Its mechanical advantages that makes their power.Konivtech wrote:I see, Are you a programer for the tuner or?Mike_Levy wrote:Naturally aspirated motors can only move a certain amount of air, and a certain amount of fuel. Re: 2012 honda civic r18
I'm here too. I'd like a tuner that I can eventually put a supercharger on. It would be great to make some more power with just bolt ons too. I'm not looking for a ton of power as yes this car is set up to be economy, but there should be some more power in there. Hell my fiancés 1.6l turbo mini destroys the civic. A lot of that is gearing and mechanics as already mentioned but, that doesn't mean there's nothing to gain. Especially for the few of us that want to go FI in the future.

Re: 2012 honda civic r18
So what exactly would Diablo do in the remap of say a FI setup.A AFM tune or a MAP tune?Tweek the timing?Change the throttleplate because its drive by wire.I am very familiar with the R18 and its tuning potential.I owned a 8th gen that had full exhaust and intake.I had vitviper a etuner for FP do a AFM tune with 15 revisions and a MAP tune with 7 revisions.MAP tune is a manifold air pressure tune.
