Tire bark n shift firmness

Post by monster71 »

So apparently even after setting firmness to increase there is no guarantee the tires will bark. Im automatic and wanted to get barks between 1-2. It was one of the reasons I wanted a tuner. I have set the axle ratio to 3.06. Tire size is set correctly. I have the traction control in the tuner set to on and use the ESP to control the traction. Wifey drives car so I prefer not to use the tuner for traction control. Not sure what more to do, tuner wise.

I have read that maybe hot asphault may also not alow the tires to bark. I drove hard this morning and yesterday too. Morning temps were 60-62. So heat wasnt an issue and no bark there.

I have tried at various RPMs and nada. In both D and autostick.

At this point its probably generating more heat than anything else in the tranny. Which I dont mind if the tires would bark. So why would I leave the firmness at increased at this point?

I know blue top solenoids would more than likely fix the bark, but thats a $400 mod.

Any ideas or other solutions to try would be welcome. Thanks guys.

What are you driving. I have a 2012 SRT challenger that I run at the track and I have never had the F-1s bark. Get some different tires.

you know having the tranny shift/BANG that HARD where it barks the tires isn't good for the tranny right? heh... but whatever, it's your vehicle...

I agree. Hard bang is not good on the tranny. Neither are sloppy shifts. From what I have read the NAG1 can take some punishment. Up to about 550 hp. Its the same tranny AMG uses in their MB. Except they use blue top solenoids for firm shifting. So if they use blue top, Im sure a tuner that firms up the shift will not do tranny damage. Especially since the tuner doesnt mess with line pressure. Now halfshaft issues are a different animal. Guess I will turn off the increase and think about the blue top solenoid swap if I want to hear those tires.

I have an RT. Basic bolt on mods. Exhaust. Tuner. CAI. Headers to be installed next weekend. I do run the F1s. So maybe its the tire? Hmm. Good point. Ima do some research on that. Thx.

Do you actually have 3.06 gears? There is no reason to change your axle ratio unless you actually changed gears. Besides, heavy car crappy 3.06 gears, good luck getting a bark into 2nd. I have had a bark once one a down shift to first around a slight corner, but that was only because I was going around a corner. If you want it to bark you will need to switch gears out to 3.92s. It will probably bark for ya then.

I'm with you that, I love this tuner, but I spent 400+ for half the options that their description says it will do. I purchased my tuner specifically because I wanted to disable the auto upshift in manual mode, raise rev limit to 6k and change WOT shift point to 6k. NOPE, can't do any of that. I went to the track and only saw a very very minor increase in my times, but I believe that was due to the 20* cooler weather (I do not have any major knock problems) Whats killing the value of this product is the lack of transmission tuning and rev limit increase. I really think diablo needs to put a disclaimer saying no all options are available with this car because as of right now the only thing its giving me that I can use is MDS disable and shift firmness. I do think its a great product especially if you are dyno tuning, it just would be darn nice to have all the options like other cars. :?

Thx Chris. But all Challenger autos have 3.06 gears. Manuals have 3.92. Plenty of auto guys can chirp away so I dont think its the gears. As far as the things you want to control they can be changed via the tuner other than the tranny. I can see the options on the Trinity for rev limits etc.

Try disabling esp on your trinity and try resetting the tcm from the trinity and see what happens. The tcm is adaptive based on driving habits so who knows where its at. Also put it in sport mode(if you have that option) because it has more aggressive shift firmness or it is just the tires you are running, they might just have really good grip. And by the way the 3.06 have a steeper 1st and 2nd gear ratio than the 6 speed manuals with 3.92s(1st 3.59, 2nd 2.19, 3rd 1.41, 4th 1.00, 5th 0.83/ 1st 2.97, 2nd 2.10, 3rd 1.46, 4th 1.00, 5th 0.74, 6th 0.50). There is nothing crappy about the 3.06s that the 5 speed autos have.
