Turnaround time for product updates?!

Post by discgolfdc »

How long does it typically take for product updates to be released?

I just recently purchased a U7145 for my '07 Mustang, and I've spoken with someone there regarding the fact that my unit doesn't recognize my vehicle's CAL_ID (FNAG0B7). I have seen some other posts here, regarding other models, that seem to express a certain degree of frustration with update turnaround time. I am hoping that this isn't going to spill over into the population of those who own the same model as me, as well.

Right now, I own it, but I can't use it.

Any feedback you can afford me would be appreciated.

Thank you.

discgolfdc, I talked to the ford tuner and he informed me that the support revision should be ready to go in roughly 3-4 weeks. Next week is the PRI show so nothing will be finished till after that is complete. Hope this helps you.

3-4 weeks, huh?

Is it just me, or do other U7145 owners feel like they've been kinda passively given the shaft when it comes to revisions? I currently STILL own my original U7145 which shipped with the 8r08 version, and, for what it's worth, it has come to make a VERY interesting-looking paper weight.

At what point do I just say "f**k this" and demand a full refund? I bought this thing through an online retailer, and I don't think they should be penalized the sale because of a lack of manufacturer support. Frankly, if I go the refund route, I'd want it directly from DiabloSport.

Are you guys planning on releasing a revision that supports more CALIDs, or are you just blowing smoke? For real, now... Let's get it together.

Eagerly awaiting your reply...

Jayson, please understand that this is an issue relating to Ford releasing new calibrations.
Unfortunately, we do not get a courtesy letter from the OEM saying that they will be releasing new calibrations.
So, we have to wait until they are released, then get a read from one of those PCMs, and develop tunes for that calibration.
Then we have to test it, on multiple vehicles, and then we create a new crom file to add support for that calibration in the Predator.
You can see a short revision history on the U7145 downloads page, which should tell you that we are always updating these tools.
The most recent update added support for most of the 08 calibrations, plus some 07 Shelby GT applications.
The next revision is in the works, and will add support for any currently unsupported applications.

Thanks

So, tell me...

How is it that you're working on 2008 calibrations while 2007's are left in the dust? I think this kinda sucks.

I realize that I don't have a suped-up Shelby or a slammed GT, but a guy who bought a V6 (mainly because George W. is in office, unfortunately)? I think his money still spends just like the rest of 'em.

By what time would YOU decide to give up on the whole thing and demand a refund, if you were in my shoes? I really need some advice, here, because I'm (obviously) a little pissed.

Actually, come to think of it, I just brought my car into the shop for a quick once-over because it's had some issues with mild backfire when it's cold (something Ford tells me is normal for the Mustang and the F-150). I don't know if they did anything with the PCM, but I had best check the Cal ID and see if it changed. The original Cal ID I sent to you might be old news, and if it takes this long to get a revision to support THAT Cal ID, I'm thinking I might wind up checking back right around the time I am ready to go on Medicare.

When we released the update for the 08s and Shelbys, there were no new calibrations out for the 07s (that we knew of at the time, at least), or we would have added them to the revision. When we found out that a new set of calibrations had been released (not just for 07s) we started creating a new revision. They still make new revisions for 2003 trucks that we have to add updates for on tools, it's not only adding new models/years. If you would like to check your current calibration to see if it changed, we can tell you if it is supported in the revision that we are releasing.

Jayson, I feel your pain. I shelled out good money for a tuner that claimed it supported 07 Mustangs and am stuck with a paper weight. They have been obviously working this revision for over 2 months now. I think they need to hire some more people to work there (with what these devices cost I'm sure they could afford it). I am frustrated too, and was told today that it should be out by the end of this week or the end of next week. I will hold by breath and hope that they live up to their word this time.
